As most of us know, THSCC has an HPDE track event scheduled for MAY 14-15 at North Carolina Center for Automotive Research in Garysburg (Roanoke Rapids), NC. NCCAR is the closest thing to Roebling Road, SCCA's teaching track in Savannah, that exists on the East Coast. It's a brand new venue with outstanding facilities and a great 2.+ mile strip of pristine asphalt. NCCAR is a perfect track for first-time drivers, and a nice change-of-pace for experienced drivers looking to really have fun in an extremely safe situation. It's perfect for street cars that most student drivers bring to an HPDE.

We scheduled this event specifically in Prime Time at a reduced Member Rate of $295 to try to encourage members who have not participated in the Track Program to give it a try. Member response has been less than stellar to this point. We have far more first-time drivers from outside the Club than we do members.

For the first time in several years, your Club is mired in Red Ink on a track event. To avoid a catastrophic financial hit, we need 20 more drivers to sign up for this event before May 2nd. Prime Time. New Track. Less then $300 for a weekend of Instructed track time. We are asking for members' help in saving this track date for us. If we cancel, we will drop a cool $5 grand, and probably lose the opportunity to run there again.

If you've EVER thought about doing a Track Weekend, PLEASE consider signing up. NCCAR is THE place to start. Also, help us by telling your friends and colleagues. This really is a make-or-break deal for the Club.
Thanks to all for reading this.

I really wish I could make this one, but a week before my wedding it may cost me my marriage before it even happens.

You're excused, James.
On second thought, how about a nice final bachelor's weekend at the Days Inn in beautiful Roanoke Rapids. The bankrupt Dolly Parton theatre, the smell of paper-making wafting over the river... Fine dining behind the Chevron station... :)

I'm trying to make this happen for me financially. Going to try my hardest to be there.

Quick question, how hard is NCCAR on brakes?

Andrew,

You can have the HT-10s in my garage, just give me a new set at some point in the future before the ones on my car run out.

How much tire wear should I expect? On street tires, lets say star specs...

Not hard at all. I assume they'll run in the clockwise direction for safety reasons, and that gives the slowest entry speed onto the main straight. The rest of the track is brake-easy in my opinion for the most part compared to the one main braking zone on the straight.

You really ought to use your Hoosiers for that event. you will rubber them in and make them stick better in the AX later that month.

Seriously, go try it out. You'll have fun and THSCC is a great place to start the track day crack pipe.

During the instructor clinic at NCCAR last month I kept my star specs on the Miata. Tire wear was actually less than I expected, although you are "in a turn" for a good amount of the track.
When running clockwise, brake wear is very light. Turn 1, after the front straight, allows you to carry quite a bit of speed.

I think we're very fortunate that we have this facility less than 90 minutes from the Triangle. JMHO, but I think it affords an excellent venue for transitioning from AX to track events -

Those things are super hard. I can barely poke them with my nail. Using them at NCCAR might not be a bad idea. I don't know if there is enough tread on them though.

First rcomps, now track....damn, I've been smoking a lot of crack lately. Is there a rehab group for when I become an addict?

You're going to want something with tread (not your Z1s :)) in case it rains.

I'd run, but I have no track car and I think the vdub is a poor substitute for either the mustang or the bimmer, which is far from ready.....

what's the story with on-site tech inspection? The stars may be aligning for me to go that weekend in the E30, but it needs tech. It passed last year and 2009, and has had like 50 miles put on it since the 2010 tech day, so there shouldn't be much issue...right? Is there a financial risk to me re:refund if the car fails for some reason? Not sure if Mark C could work me in on short notice, but I'll give it a shot. thanks!

(PS...sorry the track event is in a pinch. At the last meeting there wasn't an indication things were so precarious. Hope it all comes together!)
