Being the worry-wort that I can sometimes be...I'm actually not worried about it. I think they'll do whatever they can do to keep any e30 from winning, especially since a few have won recently. We'll be reasonably quick, but I really just want to get out there and mix it up. The standings will not legislate how much fun I have.

I'm REALLY interested to see Bernie's bird go through BS. I know Bernie, and I know for d@mn sure that he is prepared beyond a shadow of a doubt. Look up "preparedness" in the dictionary and his picture is definition #1.

Our residuals have been random. Sometimes we get barely enough to fix the car and last time we finished 7th with a running car and got a $138 residual. I think that Jay just makes it up. We only ended up spending $100, apart from the new cage, but I don't think that they care any more. Last BS inspection they didn't even pop the hood. Our strategy of being consistently horrible is paying off.

I agree. It's quite random. Cline had to do some diplomatic work after that last race to get us a good residual. The combination of Cline's well-worded pleas, us having a motor that really was just about toasted, and a bunch of crappy finishes since our Spring '09 win helped us actually get some working capital for this race.

The BS judging is going to be interesting to say the least. That engine has 168,000 miles on it, but more importantly the water pump that sits directly over the optispark distributor has 168000 on it. Add to that the fuel tank capacity is 15.5 gallons with only 14.8 usable. I think that might be some leverage with the judges. Fuel stops every hour......kind of like running Deiter on half a tank! Oh wait we won that time.

Actually we ate at the pizza place downtown to drown our sorrows. Had a blast even though we melted down the front drivers side wheel bearing, rotor, control arm and lord knows what else. Finished Saturday in 5th :(

For those of you who were moaning about not seeing me get smoked by the BS judging. We got 49 laps, and judging by the speed we were able to maintain, we could have come back from that penalty. But some poor driving by a couple of team members and the master wiring harness melting, we only made it back to 37th before we were forced to retire. But it was a good feeling to know Grumpy Old Men ran the fastest lap on Sat(1:01.5). And Colin you owe the Jimmy V 25$, sorry neither of us got to finish.

Happy to pay-up, even happier that nobody else took me up. I'll toss in another $25 to V 'cus I earned it'. The car ran fantastic in parking lot testing and was terrific for 25 or so until coolant started spraying into #4 and #5 cylinders. - a definite never give up (some might say stubborn) attitude on the team lead to an over-night engine swap that turned out to be unsuccessful - Friggin' hand me down engines. Dieter will be back. It's too good of a LeMons platform and after this weekend they should give the car un-penalty/de-penalty/reverse-penalty laps.

Better luck next time Tarheel LeMons morons.

sorry to see so many local teams struggle, especially sean/colin/tom who were working feverishly on the motor swap when i went to bed sat night. watching sean bench press a e30 transmission into position was impressive for such a scrawny guy. pity we didn't have a camera mount or i'd have great footage of magnum's seven or eight degrees of LF camber (although i do wish we could have borrowed a little of it). i didn't get a count of cars still running at the sunday finish but i'm amazed more cars didn't succumb to the heat.

my rent-a-seat resulted in a 4th place finish, but it wasn't easy. saturday we used fuel conservation mode to make it a two stop day, i drove the final 3h20m nonstop, aided by the fact that i never touched the clutch pedal after entering the track, the entire session was done in 3rd gear. sunday we went for speed since quiet hour wiped out our range advantage, i took the pre-break stint and was turning good laps until the throttle cable broke which cost us about 25 laps. we lost the radio with about 90min to go, the driver was afraid of losing spots (the car behind us was on the same lap when he went out) so he drove balls out and the car (barely) survived. the three leaders were way ahead of us with p3 having a 40 lap advantage.

3 hour+ stint? Ok, now that's crazy. I start losing it after 2 hours. Congrats on the 4th place finish.
