I'd never pick a carb over FI, but otherwise it sounds like you have the right plan/attitude.

Before you dive in too deep you all need to realize that racing a $500 car (even a free one) will cost you about $4K for the first event. That figure does NOT include you personal safety gear.

My team has a lot of experience and we'll be glad to help. All you have to do is ask.

As Ryan said, I'd highly recommend you guys come and hang out and learn how it all works. I'm willing to beg it will peg your fun meter.

:word:

I just don't see how they can keep the party going drawing 26 entries per event.

AIV =Average Internet Value

Something that is so easily faked my 11 year old nephew could do it in under a half hour. Basically you bring 10 Craigslist/Ebay listings for cars EXACTLY like your for $500 or less.

Save a few ads, load up into photoshop and BAM! you have a $500 race car.

Thats our plan, go and watch a race weekend, get some understanding. And we are well aware of the costs, will prob be at least a 18-24 month build before we begin would be on track anyways. This will give us a chance to not be so rushed on the project and spread costs out.

Well, it went pretty well overall. I just spent 15 minuted on www.jaxed.com to get 10 adds from the internet. A couple were $600 but most were $500. At tech, I was really surprised that other than the cut off switch, he did not really look at the car at all. He was really fixed on the strut tower brace because a GT comes with it and a V-6 does not hence a 1 lap penalty. The field was really full of cheater cars so I figured if I got 1 lap, these dudes got 100's but not the case. They also have a deal I did not get at the time where you can buy 5 bonus laps. Figured it was for all the big penalty lap cheaters but all the teams bought some so we started about 6 laps down to most all the field.

We drove the car much harder since there weren't any penalties for going off or light contact. Day 1 we were running 6th and had to conserve some fuel so ended up 8th. On Sunday, we just stretched the runs a bit and finished up 7th. Had I bought the bonus laps, we would have been around 3-4th. Had a good time.

The Other Barnes...

How much were the laps? Stuff like the AIV and buying laps is really turning me off to Chump Car. I thought these series (LeMons/Chump) were all about trying to make racing somewhat cheaper again? Buying laps is BS as most of the races we have been in have been determined by just a few laps. If you can buy the win that easy....I don't want to be a part of it. About they only thing they really have going for them in my book is that they run VIR. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't run with them.

$20 per lap up to 5 laps with the money going to charity. More expensive than a bribe in Lemons. I am not a fan of it but that is the deal. Looks like most everybody pays up so you need to follow suit to be competitive.

Since it's for charity I think we can play along. Did you get a receipt? You know, the whole tax deduction thing. :wink:

Yeah, I don't like that at all. July will be my last Chump race if they keep that up. LeMons does it with get out of jail cards....but that is optional. There is always going to be folks with deeper pockets which makes something like this....not really optional if you want to compete. Then it becomes a tax, not a charity. They can have that crap.
