The May FastTrack is now available on the SCCA website, and for those of you who run IT cars, there is some big news.

First off, many car are being reclassified. Of particular note:
Nissan NX2000/SER to ITA

Neon to ITA (both SOHC and DOHC)

82-84 Scirocco to ITC - Mark V. does this affect you??

Threaded body coil overs are now permitted (they weren't before??)

This re-structure in IT will help VW. Many of these proposals
origionated in the VW camp.

The most significant statment is a shift in long-standing, dare I say
stagnant, policy, that IT classes will be reviewed on a scheduled basis.
Both Re-classification and weight adjustments will be made in
the interest of competition. This is quite a departure from the stated
"non competative guarantee policy" that exsist now in IT.

I think the hot car for ITB will be the 2.0 GolfIII at the current proposed
weight. The Scirocco could be competave if it can run at the A1 platform
weight, but at 2270 lbs the Golf have a slight advantage with higher
compression and a better camshaft producing slightly more torque & HP

Regarding the Scirocco, the SciroccoII or gen. 2 Scirocco, came out
in 1982 but used a 1.7 motor from 82-84 carried over from the 1981 Scirocco1.

Scirocc II's 85 - 88 got the 1.8 JH motor and close ratio 5 speed from the GTI and fit into ITB nicely against the 2002 and 320I BMW's along with
the very popular 83-84 1.8JH Rabbit GTI.

The Scirocco 1 (1976 - 1981) had 1.6 and 1.7 motors and ran
in ITC with the early Rabbits having the same smaller motors.

However SCCA put ALL the SciroccoII's in ITB. So these 1.7 cars never really had a class to run they should have been in ITC from day one becuase they are the same A1 platform as the early Rabbit and have the
same 1.6/1.7 motor as the early Rabbit.

The 1.8 Scirocco is also at a disavantage because, even though it uses
the lighter A1 platform, it have to run at the higher weight of the A2
platform. The difference is 160 pounds! they would truly be competative in my opion at 2110 but I doubt that is going to happen. I should probably
put in a proposal, all they can say is no.

was the "Wolfvsburg edition" with color coded trim and leather interior.
A 1.8 16 valve came out in 1987 that run in ITA.
