Well I hope it does work out. I did a "circuitcross" on the patriot course with the PCA, but they just called it an autocross. That was some of the most fun I ever had in the 944!

The track is not set up for racing... as in wheel-to-wheel. There aren't enough worker stations, nor are there enough safety barriers. And there probably never will be since the facility will continue to be an industry R&D facility.

So basically, they won't allow racing there, but the will (apparently) allow time trialing. (And autocrossing basically falls under that umbrella)

There isn't any lot near big enough. The autox would have to be setup on the actual track with cones to keep speeds down (like above pic).

Oh, I guess I misunderstood something. I thought there was some big open lot there that was not the track itself....like VMP or zMaz.

There will be (although it is attached to the track) eventually. Right now, it's barely large enough to be considered a paddock area... here, this might explain it better:

Current configuration (look where it says "Phase I VDA on the track map):

Full site plan (proposed)

What's the story on the 'Large Vehicle Dynamics' area? Is that eventually going to be an even bigger paved section?

What about RallyX possibilities? Surely 4WD vehicles need testing too :).

I think it will all be there... assuming funding. The large vehicle dynamics area should be read as follows"

"large vehicle" dynamics area. There are lots of truck (as in Volvo, Kenworth, Peterbilt, etc) manufacturers that need testing too.

but yes, my understanding is that much of that area, when/if built, will be paved.
