sorry for the dumb question...my GForce harnesses say they are expired "after 2011" which to me means Dec 31, 2011. BUT, I had someone at the tech day last year tell me that they need to be replaced to be in compliance for the 2011 season, ie they'll be expired as of Jan 1, 2011.

Do I need new harnesses?

Trying to get my act together by April..figured I'd need a big headstart. Thanks in advance!

The tag on the harness has the month and year they expire. For annual tech that might mean you fail in 2011. For single events they are good until the expiration date. Unfortunately mine say Feb/11 so they are done for track use.

Best to get Mark's take on it so you're not surprised at tech. See the contacts page for the track program for Mark's contact info:

Does the tag have the month/year they expire? or the month/year they were produced? I'm pretty sure mine have the production date on them. It's 5 years from the production date for THSCC HPDE and TT.

Thanks for the help, guys....that's where I'm confused. The date of manufacture is Jan 2007, and the expiration tag clearly states "Not valid after 2011" which, if I'm reading correctly, is in line with the THSCC track/HPDE regulations stating that harnesses can't be older than 5 years. I suppose maybe I misheard/misunderstood what was said, but I remember at the time being confused when he said I'd need new harnesses in 2011. I asked him to clarify and I got the look of "How much clearer do I need to be?" as he said your harnesses will be expired for 2011.

I'll contact Mark as well.

Sounds like you are good til Jan 2012. If anyone complains sounds like they need a math lesson and a copy of the THSCC rules.

Jan 2007 SFI Manufacture date equals Jan 2012 expiration date (as far as THSCC is concerned, unless Mark changed the spec, but I'm not aware that anything has been changed.)

So assuming the belts are in good shape (not discolored or frayed, etc. etc.) then you should be G2G for another year.

Maybe he simply meant that you'd need to buy new harnesses sometime in 2011 to be compliant for 2012?

Thanks Stacy,

It's quite likely that is the case--most likely I misheard it...Good to know I can defer that cost to 2012 and focus on the myriad other car projects!

My G-Force harnesses have the expiration date stamped on them, not the manufacture date. It says they are not good after... FEB + 11. I guess different vendors choose which date method they want (manufacture or expire).

Which means Santa is bringing me a new set, hopefully...

Anyone got any comments about hte Techtech harnesses? I was looking at the Jet Pilot and Ram Pac. Schroth too.

I'm thinking of getting a defender over the hans. Is it really better to have 2" shoulder straps than the 3" ones. I see a lot of the new harnesses labelled "hans" have those narrow shoulder belts.

It depends (or at least used to depend) on if it was an SFI label (manu date) or an FIA label (expir date).
