So, do you think cardboard tube with a coat of paint would pass tech?

Just kidding, I found some heavy weight paper tube and used it to make a template to get a good fit for my harness bar. The Bimmerworld (Kirk Racing) cage kit had the horizontal bar too low for my (or probably any) seat. Luckily, I have lots of 1 3/4" pipe lying around the factory (I'm calling it scrap).

Unfortunately, this (scrap) pipe is hard steel and is kicking my tooling's ass and so it went through my last cutting wheel tonight. Back at it tomorrow.

Cage is done and the build is close to being done. Just a few details left like disconnect hub and wheel, fire system install and about 150# of ballast to make 2,900#s. The alignment is set and we're waiting on the tires. I'm picking up the Spec3 chips and tow hooks at VIR this weekend. The car needs some paint and a little cleaning, but it'll make it on the track for the 2nd (I hope).

Outstanding progress. I didn't think you'd be ready this soon. Well done.

Do yourself a favor and go ahead and paint the whole cage now. Yes it's a PITA, but it will be moreso if you let the surface rust form. Ask me how I know.

My thought was to run the first two events over the next two weekends and see if I want to change any brackets before I painted. You may have a point though. A quick coat of primer would be easy enough.
