A buddy of mine sent this videoto me. This is from the Summit Point August Sunday race. I started on the pole. Once I got my act together (on lap 3), I opened up a nice lead.

But as the 2010 season has gone, bad luck would bite me again later in the race.

Summit Point is a fun track to drive. I thought I was an ace on turn 1, but the video shows I am a spaz in turn 1. Plus I need to grow some bigger ones in the kink (turn 5). But that tire wall track left is real close.

I had built up a 4 second lead, when I heard a banging noise. The stock car was still running behind me. That was very nice of him to follow and let me build up a lead on the others.

The car seemed to be running fine. I thought maybe the cool shirt box had come loose. But determined it was definitely metallic. Nothing seemed wrong with the car. The whole time I am still turning very fast laps.

Then it seemed dust was coming in the car. Where would dust be coming from, did I suck up some of the turn 3 speedi dry. Oh, that is not dust. it is smoke. Maybe the battery hold broken out of the holder and was shorting out.

Well, my bravery and desire to figure out the issue with little no data at hand had runs it course. The prospect of being strapped into a burning race car is beyond even my machoism.

I headed straight for the turn 6 worker station. Stopped the car, undid the steering wheel, window net and harness (just like I practiced), that is when I noticed the fire extinguisher was not beside my drivers seat.

The thing had come loose and dislodged from its bracket. The banging was the extinguisher, the smoke was it finally discharging inside the car. At that point, I could taste it in my mouth...yuk.

I told the corner worker to call off the fast closing fire truck, throw the bottle out the door, strapped back in and headed back to the track...losing a lap to only the leader. Finished 5th overall.

why did you throw it out. You could have pointed it out the back for a little extra top speed.
