Now that you mention it, Adam, I think that it really would make more sense for us to go to Open. The only reason I was going to PRO was that's where Aaron was. If there are 2 or more people from the same class running in Pro class, and the rest of that class isn't 2 sec behind (which they ain't gonna be)... something's wrong with that picture.

The whole point of it is to have somebody to really push you to drive your best - whether it's folks from other classes racing against each other in PRO, or somebody who matches up to you in your own class.

PS: Tom - remind me to dust & polish my Top Gun trophy tonight. I haven't shown it any love lately...

I have mixed feelings about the Pro vs. Open thing. I generally feel that the logical thing is to do away with it due to point #1 that Aaron mentions above. But at the same time it would be nice to keep people like Aaron, Matt and Kevin out of Open class for poor slobs like myself. 8)

You see these guys on TV (F1, WRC, NASCAR, whatever) that are in 2nd place and then the 1st place guy has something happen in the last few laps that puts him out of the race and "2nd" goes on for the "Win". You have to say to your self... "Does he feel good even if he inherited the win?". I am thinking that even if it is a bit of a hollow victory, it still probably feels pretty good. :P

There are probably other drivers in our club that would do great in STS and battle at the top if they decided to build an STS car. Should I feel cheated that they are not currently in STS? If the current top STS drivers decided to move or quit competing locally, would any "wins" by myself be tainted? Should those that are competative nationally not play locally? should I move to a less competative class? I don't know the answer to these questions. I guess I should just say... Stay in Pro you guys.

It is going to be another season for me in the 3 HP Civic, so unless I am in STS all by myself it is going to be another year at the back of the pack working on improving my skills vs taking home trophies.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

Don't you mean towing it from events

Glad there are people that haul their little old stock cars :)

In regard to high (50 psi range) tire pressures.

Keep in mind that the belts on radials are VERY stiff . . . usually steel is involved :D

Without telling long war stories, high pressures with a radial may improve transitions more than grip is hurt. Grip may not even be hurt, or conversely transitions may not be helped.

Do some accurate testing to find out. Don't just go by feel. Use accurate timing. Don't necessarily go by tire temps. A skid pad is one way to test since driver "variables" can be minimized from lap to lap.

Remember that tread depth is significant in regard to grip and transitions as is wear pattern across the tread or just the outside tread ribs/blocks.

i guess it depends on who you want to compete against right...regardless of where you two end up, i'll be comparing my times to yours...with 60hp more, a better suspension and bigger tires, in relatively the same car, i hope to be closer to you guys this year than last...i'm looking forward to a good competitive (bikker free) season.

Jim - You are still my hero for the tow back :)

Kevin - We'll see about that Top Gun this year. I was trying to be nice last year and let you feel "good" about yourself

If I can make most of the events, barring any conflict for National events, I'm putting my name in the hat for Top Gun as well. The car is now running very good, and with a few more additions in the coming weeks, it only stands to get better. :angeldevil: - AB

Well, I'm of course going to do what I can, but I know Tom will be on a mission - and there are so many great drivers in the club that it's impossible to predict what will happen... that's what makes this stuff so much fun.

PS - thanks to Peter Baio, I'll most likely have the clutch&flywheel in by this weekend! :D

Since this thread has become the offical PRO class smack-talking thread, let me throw in my 2cents.

With Tom and I both driving it this year, Tom's WRX will be finishing in 1,2 order in both PRO and Top Gun. The only question that remains to be answered is will I beat Tom or will I be nice and "let" him win, since it is his car and all. :angeldevil:

All you other PRO class opponents might as well go back to open class and run on Azenis :moon:

Seriously I'm looking forward to this year and I'm thinking that the competition should be really close. Good luck to you all. :beerbuds:

I'll actually be in Pro class running Azenis with a stock car... It'll suck to be all of yall when I win an event or two!

I'm just hoping the new wheels and tires can make it here in time. It'll take two weeks to drill them, so it will be a nail biter if they get here. - AB

Aaron - if you need help drilling holes in your tires, I'm available... I can even bring a cordless drill to events, if needed!
