So I wanted to thank those who cam out saturday and helped with course set up. Wes, Gerich, Jake, Vincent, Scott, Kevin, Shawn and Mitch, two of these guys are novices who have never even run with THSCC yet. We were there from 3-6pm and got both courses set up. We used the whole runway end to end and pitted and did grid on the taxiway.

As for the event today it went very well I think, and judging by the responses I got after it. There were two courses and everyone got 6 runs on each course. Started at 10am and finished at 4pm. Then we put the courses together and those who wanted got 3 full course 60-70sec fun runs with several 3rd gear points. It really gave a new meaning to FUN runs.

So I wanted to thank all those that came out and that helped out during the day and afterwards. With a big thanks to Mark Senior who drove the bus back, and hung around while the rest of us did fun runs.

Adam
(who really likes 65sec courses at sanford)

Everything Adam said, and on top of that, we were picked up in time for me to get home for the UNC-NC State game - capping off a beutiful day (I had plenty of time to mix a rum and Coke before tip off!).

This was a very fun event! I really liked the full course fun runs at the end, too. It was wild looking back on the grassy areas at the end of the day and seeing exactly how much snow had melted away, and none of it drained onto the runway.

Kudos to Adam, Scott and Vincent for putting together a good pair of courses, and letting me see how course design *really* works.

Yes it was definitely nice to see some new faces at setup on Saturday, thanks guys. Nice to see more people get involved to lessen the burden on those who usually seem to do all the work. It still amazes me the number of people that seem to think the officers just have a fancy title along with their magic wand to make our events happen.

The T&T did pretty much go off without a hitch. Wait let me correct that statement. Actually the "off" did cause us to use a "hitch" or at least a tow hook. It seems cold tires on the very first run aren't sticky enough to go through a decreasing slalom at WOT. :brow: Nothing got bent though, so no harm, no foul.

A word of caution to anyone thinking of buying a Miata. DO NOT let Brad Mackey talk you into driving his car. He may have to twist your arm and beg, but don't give in. If you take the bait you will have to buy one, then want to spend even more money to make it handle like his. That car is seriously hooked up even on Sanford's gritty surface. I can't imagine it how well it could stick on the concrete at Laurinburg. Thanks a lot Brad for letting me beat on your car yesterday and making me have to spend more money on mine.

Adam, I think every course at an airport-type venue should have at least one third gear segment. :woo:

See a lot of you back in Sanford this coming Sunday.

How many 2 to 1 downshifts (rather than 2-3 upshifts) will Brad let you make before he bans you from his car?

Ouch! I guess you "heard" that too huh? Actually Brad did it first (but it's his car) then I followed doing the same on my first run in his car.

There were two problems that caused it. First, I've never driven a car that would slide right back into 1st at 50 MPH. Neither my Cavalier nor Ryan's Talon would, even if I did want it to. Second, the "death-grip" on the shifter is a no-no for anyone who's driven a manual. I do know better, and did it anyway...TWICE! On my last run I loosened my "death-grip" and used the heel of my hand for the 2-3 upshift and it worked...duh!!!!!
:stupid:

Gotta love that Miata transmission...it's smooth shifting and obviously tough! :D
