I keep looking, I just haven't found suitable headsets yet.

It does have a monitor port. It is the same computer that we use for the Christmas Party Presentation.

If you all want to try a remote monitor at the next event, I am all for it. Keep in mind that they have changed a few things in AXWare. The FTwhatever are nolonger always displayed. That is now a pop up window function, so that won't be displayed all the time. Also, you are at the mercy of the person working the computer position during the heat. Some people have different setups to make themselves more productive.

What I'm saying is you may not always see the same thing given the person working the computer.

Todd, when we first started using AXWare the developer of the software was very open to feedback. If there's a feature that was taken out of the software and you would like it back, he will probably make it happen for you.

I wasnt around last Xmas to know. That being said, I agree with you about being at the mercy of the person running the computer. I wont be announcing... and no one can pay me enough to announce :p Was just tossing an alternative idea to the second computer out there.

at the very least the remote monitor would allow you to immediately see:

Number, class, name, time, penalties, place in class (does it allow you to see how far behind people are?)

Maybe more, but that would give the announcer some material.

Heck, just not having to tell the announcer "clean" or "+2" when I'm working raw sheets makes it worth it to me.

I remember our "remote" setup. That computer that you cant see in the sun, yeah that thing is fun to try and look at. So then you put it inside a storage container and stick you head inside it.

Fun indeed.

Yes, but the computer worker may have the window on the left with the class/number tree out too far and that will cut off some of the working window.

I agree completely, again this reenforces my point of how hectic it can be at some sites. Having the announcer be able to just look at a screen, away from the bus, would be a blessing.

Fixed. Anybody want to add up and compare the number of cone calls between Saturday's course and Sunday's course?

IIRC when we had the announcer screen before it was on a separate laptop running AXware in "announcer mode"- it wasn't just an external monitor showing whatever the operator sees. The announcer screen showed the kinds of things you'd want an announcer to know- and it did a good job. I think Rob Harvey had it set up (using his laptop maybe?)

Still, it brought new issues:
  1. It needed power.
  2. If it was in the bus the announcer could be (extra) distracting.
  3. If it was outside there was glare to deal with.

I'll count cones tinight when I get home. But I'm going to guess that there were less than 50 cones called all day Sat.

I only hit one. That tells the story right there.

Triad had 142 cone calls, 31 DNFs in 356 runs. I coned out and had a nice agricultural excursion for a DNF as well.

Well, I’ve now been on both sides of the situation with announcing/working T&S. I did raw sheets Sunday in Danville. (And not my bag, let me say!) I’ll say this, I usually announce during the times that Brice and Mary, and/or Keith and Art are doing T&S. I really try to announce “in between” cone calls as best I can, and Brice and Keith signal me a cone count-which, when it’s not too hectic, and there aren’t 3-4 cars on course, I can hear anyway. But, I’m no chatterbox on the air, to be sure. The announcer Sunday was about 2 feet away from my ear, and yes, looking over the shoulder of the guy on computer. All I could think about was “I wish this guy would shut up. I can’t hear the radio for cone calls!” Also, I was appreciating the patience of Brice and Keith (because they're doing raw sheets and on the radio) when I’m in the bus. As much as I like being in the bus with those guys, I guess with a separate laptop or monitor, I could bring my car up beside the bus, within 20’ I think I read, sit in AC, and try to talk more.<shrug>
