...but I think I am going to be getting rid of the 944 soon. The pressure plate mostly self destructed at the last autocross down here and it's just gotten to be more wrenchin' than racin', you know? Which is fun in its own right and all but I just don't have time for how much this car breaks.

So I'm looking for a new "fun" car (my beloved 325 of 6 years just turned 100000 miles yesterday, sniff) that is still DD capable, less than 10k, and possible for me to fit in with a helmet. Looked at the 350z but they're hard to find in coupes down here, and think I'm going to go look at a RX8 today.

Did the SCCA ever make up its mind about what cars are going where? I know the RX8 used to be untouchable in BS but it sounds like that all may change.

And of course there's always the rally impreza project...but don't think I want to drive around town with a stripped interior and a cage.

I miss you guys up there in NC, FL isn't nearly as hospitable.

Hope everyone is having fun!

Keep in mind the 370Z was just classed in BS with the RX8 so who knows how that will shake out.

William - these days you can probably get a pretty tidy early S2000 for around $10K. A friend of mine bought a VERY nice 2003 a few months ago for 11. They're out there.

If you want to learn about the cars, PM me. I won't bore the heck out of the rest of the club by extolling their virtues again...

Hmmm...a 944 that spent more time on jackstands than on the street. I know nothing about that  .

Having owned an RX-8 for a year (a car I should have kept), it's outstanding in stock form and does just about everything right...with the exception of the wretched gas mileage.

While the RX-8 has no torque to speak of, the gearing masks it pretty well. With a 9300 rpm redline, you don't have to shift as much as you might think.

The early cars have lost a good bit of their value and can be had for reasonable money. I haven't kept up with the community since I sold mine, so I don't really know what the issues are with the higher mileage cars.

I've heard they need a bigger front bar.

That doesn't count. I'd rather own Nelson's C63 AMG than...just about anything.

Thanks guys. A lot of what you've said has been echoed by others.

Not looking to buy anytime too soon so I'm going to wait out the whole class rearrangement thing and then (maybe) buy.

Haven't driven an S2000 yet but I don't really have anywhere to put a tire trailer so I'd prefer a car I could put all the tires in (like an RX8).

Locally and regionally speaking, the RX-8 still should be every bit as competitive even with the move to CS. The 370z and the MSR should shake out as your top National based cars, but from at the local level, that doesn't matter.

The RX-8 is a wonderful car, regardless of the gas mileage, which is at best, awful :) - AB

Yeah the RX8 gets about the same gas mileage as the guided missile frigate I drive.

And now I've also read about the whole STR thing which might allow me to keep running the 944 with a few aftermarket parts...
