Has anyone on here run at the coliseum site recently? I'm getting mixed reviews. Some people tell me it's small and not very enjoyable. Others tell me the courses there are usually very good, on the fast side, and that the site is great. Who's right?

x2. I've never been to the site (I might have been back in 2001, but don't remember) and would like some insight to it. With the long gearing of the C6 and the 325 rears, I likely will be able to use 1st gear everywhere (around 54mph in 1st gear) if the site allows for it.

I'm not too concerned about SS pax, for I feel if the corners are slow enough, it has a decided advantage over most cars. We'll see, but some pointers on the site would be helpful. - AB

It's a decent site. Grip isn't optimal, but as long as it's not too cold, it's not bad. I've run there in the Feb/March time frame in the morning and it was miserable. I don't think it will be cold enough next weekend for that to play a huge factor though. I can't say that I have run a really fast course there, but there is plenty of space. If you've had fun at Greenville, you shouldn't worry about this site.

The site isn't autocross nirvana, but its pretty good. Its a good bit bigger than Greenville. For those that remember running at the RBC center, its similar to that without the tree islands though the surface at RBC was probably a little better. I've seen hatefully slow courses there and nice fast open ones. I'm pretty sure I have flirted with the top of second in the boosted Miata there on more than one occasion. The surface isn't the grippiest ever, but its pretty consistent and pretty good asphalt. Having clean air conditioned bathrooms available in the summer is really nice.

Greensboro is just like sanford. It has lots of sand and grit on the surface.

Opinions are what makes the world interesting!
Here's mine: I have said in the past that I like the coliseum site. It is squarish and unusually spacious for a parking lot with minimal obstacles to design a course around. There is enough room for the courses to fold around with good sized sweepers possible. The courses can vary with the designer, I have run terribly and IMHO unnecessarily tight courses there and open flowing challenging courses that were a lot of fun to run. I think it was the last NCAC there where the first day's course was painful but thanks to Jinx and Rob was reconfigured into a much better course on Sunday. The grip is about as good as you get with asphalt that is not power swept regularly and gets better quickly. It does not have piles of loose grit accumulation where the rain water puddles like Sanford, there is enough elevation change for good runoff. The area around the site is city streets so you don't have the wind scoured and washed open fields around to produce a lot of sand and gravel.

Well, it looks like I'm going to be in Atlanta during the NCAC weekend anyway (I'm going down there to detail some cars), so I guess I'm out. Which is a shame - I had a pretty good day at Danville last weekend, and was hoping maybe I could represent the club well at the NCAC.

I won't be competing but I am planning on driving up to watch later in the afternoon. I will probably have a whole bunch of Subarus taking a nice afternoon drive from Cary to Greensboro to come watch. Does anyone know if we will have to pay the $5 parking fee or will there be somewhere nearby we can park and walk over.

Yep. Even competitors get to pay the site entry fee. Welcome to the Greensboro Coliseum.

I hope the forecast improves. Anyone know the cancellation policy on this event? Two days running in the cold rain with no rain tires even available for the car is not my idea of fun. - AB

So are you going?

I'm still going back and forth between driving the Focus in TIR class or the Mustang in FS. The forecast is making me think it's going to come down to what run group you end up in as to if the pavement will be dry or not. Decisions, decisions.

I've decided to go. It went from 50% chance on Saturday to 60% and back down to 40%. Regardless, it will probably be wet, but I feel like I still will have some fun. I'll be driving to the event (about 10 miles) on r-compounds, so I am hoping there isn't arse load of rain in the morning ;) - AB

It looks like sat will be dry for most of the day and sunday will probably be wet in the morning. It's a bummer. I can't decide.

I'm still in even though Weather.com is saying a 40% chance of rain until 1200 when it changes to a 40% chance of thunderstorms. Sunday, Rain all day.

Sounds like a beautiful weekend for an autocross!!!

Sorry to sound like a pessimist, but with the system that is being used by Triad and the site, we have very little chance at winning it back. They have a host of top level drivers that consistently pax in the top 10 of almost any event.

If it rains, I'll be lucky to be in the top 20. - AB
