I'm planning on hitting both the Danville events (THSCC Sat & Triad Sun) and was wondering what the hotel is popular? I was looking at booking a room, but if there might be a bunch of people staying overnight, I want to be at the "right" hotel :) Courtyard Marriott at 2136 Riverside?

Also, does anyone know if we will be able to safely leave a trailer & car overnight at the site? Thanks - AB

I usually stay at the best western. overnight parking should not be a problem. I don't know where everyone else stays

Triad folks tend to steer for the Best Western. The Sleep Inn is right across the street, and the Comfort Inn in town is the only hotel that has a bar in it.

You can safely leave the car and trailer there onsite, there hasn't been a problem that I've heard of since I started doing events there.

NCR has a rate at the innkeeper that was a bit lower than the other hotels so we tried it for the June event. I'll be polite and say we got what we paid for.

Stayed at all 3 of these... They are all within ~$10 of eachother if I recall, and IMO, the Best Western is the nicest - certainly the best if you have kids (indoor pool and hot tub), and good breakfast included. Sleep Inn is a close second. Both are just blocks from the site. The Comfort Inn has it's perks for evening entertainment, of course, but I don't remember being as impressed with the actual hotel. It is also the closest to good restaurants though, too.

I have left my car and trailer on site many, many times over the past few years with zero issue. The site is gated and locked on 3 sides, and being an active airport gets "watched" on off hours. I'd go so far as to say this is likely one of our most secure sites.

That's good information Dustin, Wes & Rob. In light of my desire to have restaurants and alcohol nearby, I booked the Comfort Inn last night. I will certainly be a spectacle on Saturday night at the bar, so anyone is free to join Les Davis and I :) - AB

Just registered and booked a hotel for both events. I've never done a Triad event before, is there anything that would be good to know before getting there?

I'm looking for a roomie for Sat evening. Let me know if you'd like to split a room for the night.

They prefer preregistration if you've never ran with them before, it saves time at the table. They don't have roving tech, they'll have a station to drive to when you're "autocross ready". Sawyer is bringing a grill up Saturday and we'll have hot dogs and cold beer after our event is done and they're setting the course up so we can hang out with people in all clubs. Coursestumbles afterward may be offered.

Chances are that there's going to be solid tomfoolery in town that night as well. I don't know if there's a poker game that's been formalized yet though.

Since Tom Freeman sadly won't make it, I have space in a room at the Comfort Inn on Saturday if anyone is looking to share.

Update - I'll only be there Saturday, so I won't have a room.

Just curious. Does anyone have the dot on how TSCC will run on Sunday? We weren’t in Sanford last month but what I read after wasn’t encouraging. Two hour + work assignments –since they do all runs at once- is a bit worrisome in 100 degree heat. Any ideas? Just trying to decide how much I really like autocrossing in August.

i dont think that it will be that bad. The reason in Sanford it was casue the corse was SSSSOOOO long. they started at the first crossover by the train car adn went all the way down and back the other side. I dont think that is even halfway possible in Danville.

It also had to do with VERY uneven run groups. They divided all the groups up trying to keep them even, except they forgot SM (which had like 8 people). When the SM people asked at the drivers meeting, they just put them with heat 1. When you've got only 50 some people at an event, dumping an extra 8 into on heat makes a big difference. I worked the afternoon and was amazed how SHORT my worker assignment was. 6 runs also had something to do with it.

OK, guys. Thanks for the input. I appreciate it. That will help us decide.
