amazing event!

cars i've driven in events so far(note similarities):
corolla, crx, fit, type arr, celica

today: mustang gt! it was an interesting experience, as many of you witnessed. i think i still prefer small, light cars even though the v8 power was addicting

thanks to mr. wright for the co-drive! is it still available for the next event if i'm here?

also had a couple fun runs in feinberg's new machine. that is one amazing car and tons of fun to drive. i think it's the most fun i've had in any car so far. thanks mr. feinberg!

so in summary: rwd = awesome. mid-engined = even awesomer!!11one!1

Thanks to Maria and Mike for driving the bus to and from Greenville. Welcome to the wonderful world of bus transportation AND surviving a flat tire on the bus during the drive home. Also, special thanks to Cline Hall for seeing them on the side of the road, turning around and going back to help. And, he didn’t even attend the AX. Thanks.

So do tell what happened! We designed the tire-change stuff a long time ago -- did they manage to find everything needed for a successful roadside repair? Was it front or rear?

They’ll have to give you the blow by blow…I got a call from Cline as I was exiting 540 headed to dinner with the group.
“Are you with the bus?”
“Ah, no. Why?”
“Cause it’s parked on the side of the road down here near I-95. Looks broke down.”
Long story short. He turned around. We reached Mike and Maria indirectly by voicemail. They couldn’t find the jack, did find the spare tire, however, and Cline, who I think was coming home from an HPDE, had a jack. So, they got it changed, and got underway. And, it was a front tire on the bus as far as I know. (THSSCers are everywhere! Cline just paid it forward for the time I found him on the side of the road in Bahama, broken down.)

Another great event. A big Thank you to all who helped organize it! I had a great time. Especially watching my car from the sidelines do it dorifto-style in the wet! LOL

Carpenter's MR2? It's yellow and a BLAST to drive.

That was a fun course and a fast course! First Greenville course that I can recall that didn't require you to downshift to first anywhere.

I guess I was the "lucky dog" yesterday. After DNFing my first run (who switched those pointer cones in the last slalom after my final course walk? :) ), I managed to sneak in a good, clean, 2nd run just as the first rain squall hit. As I turned into the Chicago box, the view forward was suddenly washed out, but I was able to find my way to the finish. I'm sure that my big lead after heat 1 put my competition in a bad spot, forcing them play catch up on a drying course in heat 3.

Art, just curious, how close did we all come to dying last night on 70 when that guy ahead of you stopped for the deer? I saw Bernie swing out, then just red lights and lots of cars stopping. I couldn’t see well behind me but was able to swing to the left. It took a few minutes for my heart beat to settle down. I hate when that happens!

Thanks for everyone that contributed. A special shout out to Bernie and Walter for the help after the Camaro decided to eat a front wheeling bearing. I can not remember having such a big grin after completing a run. Walter's Camaro is an awesome car.

The new Kuhmo tires on the truck suck. If I went over 55 mph, I could barely control the truck and keep it in its lane. Made for a long drive down and a longer drive home. If a truck or SUV passed, it was all I could do to keep it on the road.

It was a fun day and great to see some old friends. I hope to get the Camaro out to some more. But it is a cranky thing.

Oh yes, seeing that yellow MR2 cause me to start twitching. There are too many nightmares still of that thing beating me like a baby seal.

For the benefit of anybody who cares about last night's near miss - this was on 70W just past the Carolina Ale House at Brier Creek. For the record, we had dinner at Las Palmas on Leesville Rd, per presidential orders, and a fine time was had by all.

To answer Gwen's question - I don't know.. the Nissan slowed down a little, then a little more (about then I was starting to call the driver names) and then came to a complete stop. Lots of headlights in my mirrors, so I decided to stay in the right lane and hope for the best. About the time Bernie went by on my left, I saw the fawn walk out from in front of the Nissan and jump over the guard rail on the right. Did you see any other deer there?

P.S. Remind Bernie that the stretch of US 70 from the NCHP office to I-85 is still a 55 zone. :)

yep, being a tarheel member is better than having a motor club. About the time we finished getting the front tire on, Kevin "Finker" Butler had turned around and came back for help. Maybe a joke in here, How many tar heelers does it take to change a tire?

It's hard to believe that this is my first autocross with rain and I gotta say, it's still pretty fun, granted it was warm, but still...

Big thanks to the organizers/VP's as usual and the site owner(s) for trusting us with their lot and facilities. The Greenville site is really growing on me and always demands extra concentration with it's condensed, technical layouts. I think this was the first time I raced there on street tires and I have to say that the grip is a little better than I was expecting (during the dry runs of course).

The middle of the figure eight or the "x" section of the course was cool because you could get on it, but you had to really watch your braking zone before the turnarounds.

I think it says a lot about the club that three people spotted us and stopped to help - including one guy (sorry I forgot his name) who had just been to his first autocross. A fun little adventure for us after a great day.
