Do all THSCC auto-x events have split sessions running 4 run groups, and then participating in 2 of those groups?

Generally, yes. There are occasional changes if we are short on course workers, or if it's a special event (NCAC).

May I ask what the benefit of that method is for those that prefer it?

And you get a chance to think about what you might do different/better, or ask someone else (socializing), or observe others on course to see what they're doing - all before you make your last set of runs.

I figured as much... And I was trying to see the good part of that method. I'm not partial to it.

I guess my method of learning doesn't suit this style. Thanks for helping me decide before 8pm.

The other reason for split runs is so that you do not have to work the course for hours at a time.

This is actually a pretty legitimate question if you've been running the 'four at once' format.

It's probably easier for timing and scoring in places like Laurinburg and it makes it possible for the event to keep running without stopping for worker changes.

Plus, it's more fun to break it up so you can go psyched for your afternoon runs and gives you a chance to focus on not hitting that one (or dozen) damn cone(s) you nailed or the section you may have totally DNF'd without even knowing.

If your Pacer breaks down on your 2nd run, you have 90 minutes or so to fix it before your 3rd run. That's how Spitzner explained it to me at my first autocross. :)

This isn't right, we don't split work assignment up. The workers spend the same amount of time out there either way.

I'm not a fan of splitting things up. Best as I can tell, this is the only club within 300 miles that does this. And if I can take my officer hat off for a second, I'm not a fan. It adds needless complexity, and doesn't allow for people to get in "the zone" for their runs and benefits those that like to take rides and look at the course at speed many times instead of making it a true solo sport.

Officer hat goes back on right about here.

The members like it and don't want to change things because its a tradition.

Wes - That's it. I attended the first event last month, and I've been contemplating attending this one. The first event after the first 2 runs, I was just getting warmed up, and it was time to break.

The second session, I was just getting warmed up, and I'm done. My tires didn't even warm up (went from 29psi - 31psi), and my brakes were still 'cold' after session. It probably doesn't help that I bring a 3900lb car, but I've run with other clubs for a couple events, and ran 4-5 runs per session, and I feel that method suits my learning style better.

I have no interest in asking any member to change what is tradition, I've just simply found it doesn't work for me.

Another benefit I see is that it evens the playing field out accross run groups a bit as far as weather goes. If it rains and/or gets really hot in the afternoon, it doesn't mean that the whole event is won by those who are in the first two run groups. NC weather being as tempermental as it is, I think thats a good thing.
