AFAIK, every event has a different run group order.

For National Tours, it's always different. For ProSolos, it's always the same order.

The split run group actually harms those that want to go to the next level. When I can take 2 runs, analyze them, work the course and watch trouble spots, and then do it again, I will have faster overall times than if I took 4 hits in a row. The problem is that at National Tours, you have to get it all done in 3 runs with limited amounts of time in between.

Personally speaking, I like both. I think the big advantage to split groups are that everyone needs to be on site most of the day (so you don't get someone running 1st, working 2nd and home watching TV before the 4th run group is over.) This does promote more socialization, trash talk and general fun. The other added benefit is that you tend to not have a complete run group being worked by a huge host of novices. Novice class tends to be pretty big, but when the workers are split across two work groups, you tend to have experience workers with novices, which does aid in learning that part of the sport. - AB

I like the split run groups cause it give me a chance to see other people run certain areas where i am messing up.

jsut another idea.

I tried to use this mentality. And I studied the car's paths as they went past my corner station. But being in the car and standing on the sides gives you two completely different perspectives.

Generally speaking, you're only a meet and greet away from riding with others to get more looks at the course. This is probably the biggest advantage of doing the split groups, so you should take advantage of it.

I personally think this is really helpful for those who are just getting started.

Wes. You sure about that? I have heard it is "tradition" more than anything else. Part of the THSCC signature that makes the club different.

Why not take a poll on it and see if members wouldn't like to swap to the conventional method? Maybe let event chairs decide on which way the event will run, split/no-split? Heck, we even changed the run group order once and made stock class go 2 and 4  I think the run groups should get rotated every other event.

People who started AX in this club just get used to the split. The rest of folks who learned elsewhere or run many clubs are used to all at once. So why not change things up a little?

Tradition depends on the time frame I guess. I used to autocross with THSCC from ~1978-1983 before moving away from Raleigh until 1992...everything was different back then. When I came out again once Jackie was interested and old enough to drive (2005), I was totally lost on the two-run group (i.e. A, B) and two separate sets of run groups. Jackie was like, "I thought you knew what you were doing?" I recall pestering Stephan more than a few times about how this worked (think he and Michael were worker coordinators that year) as I'm sure he was wondering why this dude couldn't get understand what to do. :)

Studing the cars path is only a part of what you can learn at the work stations, acceleration and braking points also are factors as well as whether other drivers in similar cars are braking at all or just breathing the throttle or in fact are at full throttle. your points about not wanting to run on cold tires, and then wanting to run in the rain is contradictory your tires will be cold if you run in the rain. You'll develop smooth inputs in the rain which will help with the cold tire situation
In short, run format will not dictate, to a great extent, how well you perform. But the number of events you run in will...seat time, seat time, seat time, is the answer.

For what it's worth, tomorrow's fun event will be all runs at once due to participation.

Adam - come find me if you want a ride-along.

I'm a worker coordinator, so I can squeeze my runs in whenever and I can take you out during your run group.

I wanna see you get 100% out of that GTR

Correction - decided I may not run my car, so it is slightly dependent on a co-drive. Catch my there and we'll figure it out.

You're absolutely right about the cold tire/rain comment.

I guess a longer explanation would help. I know what I'm capable of in my car when the tires are up to temp. And about the rain - I have no idea what my car would do in the rain, and I reckon I have a lot to learn in that regard.

I hadn't considered learning on cold tires, because I've always concentrated on warming up tires before pushing the car. I guess there is a whole mindset that I should learn. Now I'm beginning to think it was a mistake not signing up for this weekend.

You can just show up and register - really. You're running out of excuses

Adam - here's an insider's tip - the number of people we've turned away in the last 5 years from all events combined, assuming they got there while registration was open, can be counted on one hand. And we're nowhere near over-capacity for this weekend......

Edit: I'm in the purple BMW M3 - catch me any time tomorrow for a ride-along. If my seat is full, we'll find you some ride-alongs.
