Nice going, Tom! Beat KC in his own car, huh? :D Congratulations to Eric, too - you guys didn't miss out on 1st place by much.

My question is - why was the STS Celica running in DSP? Did something get protested?

:?

It rained all weekend, 40's and rain on Saturday, 30's and heavier rain on Sunday.

The STS Celica ran in DSP because of the way the SCCA does ProSolo points. You only get to count your 3 best events in one class. Aaron and Bryan decided that running a high horsepower low traction car in the cold and wet would be a nice idea if they wanted to piss away ProSolo points. The AWD cars had the big advantage (and won), the light weight, low power Civics also have an advantage with low grip over the Celica, so strategy dictated a class hop.

Bryan and I thought we had a good shot at DSP, and didn't want to test the 'green' car in a weekend rain out. After the 1st session, I was 1st, Bryan 2nd, with Tunnell 3rd about 2.1 seconds off of me. The winning car was on A3S03's and was way back.

For the 2nd session, we thought that running Rob Carpenter's Ecsta V700's would help us increase the lead. Well, that wasn't even close. They didn't hook up nearly as well as our MX's and the car was as loose as Roseanne Barr's ass. Tunnell improved, while I could only back up my redlight time on the left course from the 1st session. Bryan drove better than me on the left, but couldn't improve on the right. The winning car slapped on new Dirt Stockers and owned us (well, at least only the primary driver ). The worst part was that in that session, the conditions were the best they were all weekend.

In our 3rd session on Sunday, the conditions got horrible, and no one improved. Due to the storm, we had to roll, even though I qualified 25th for the challenge being just less than 1.2 seconds back. I think if we kept the MX's on, we could have challenged for the lead.

Although our times would have put me in 9th and Bryan in 11th in STS, I feel pretty good about the car. I think we'll show our strength in a big way at Ft. Myers.

Best part about the event? Winning $50 in Kumho contingency and another $35 off the co-driver :)- AB

It was a good event considering the weather with one HUGE and RIDICULOUS mistake of the SCCA not counting reaction times during class runs. Their SW was not working correctly, so everyone got a 0.500 reaction time instead of what they were *supposed* to get.

Kinda sucks when you caught .560 lights and lost by 0.049 to someone that was cutting 0.800 lights

Also, when you redlit, your time was also a 0.500 and not your reaction time, meaning that people who redlit got screwed most of all.

Had to go to Atlanta (my son lives there) so thought I would go this past weekend to catch some of the Pro Solo and cheer our guys on a bit. I have never been to a Pro Solo before, but it looks like a lot of fun. Being a person that loves hot weather, though, I don't know if I would have enjoyed the Atlanta event or not. The weather was absolutely miserable.
I couldn't believe what a difference the Hoosier Dirt Stocker's made in ES. Jim P. and Jim F. were leading in the MR2 until the competition put on the Dirt Stockers. Oh well. Great job anyway guys. Congrats to the rest of the Tarheelers who represented us extremely well, also. After several hours of spectating I thought my feet were going to fall off from frostbite! Also had a miserable drive home on Sunday, but the Infiniti FX is awesome in the rain. Was able to maintain 80 to 90 MPH and never felt anything but rock solid. (My wife slept most of the way). I'll have to try a Pro Solo sometime, but definitely when it is warm.
