My wife and I have joined recently, and she is signing up for the majority of the events that I am. We intend to share one car (for now).
Is there a specific numbering scheme that we should do? Or would it even matter if we run different run groups or classes?
How is this best handled?
Welcome to the club (literally and figuratively). Malia and I have been car-sharing for many years - it's really no issue. In fact, we often 3-way share a car at Autocrosses with my father-in-law. The details are spelled out at the drivers meeting and there will be people on-site that can help you get started. Effectively, you will each have a unique class/number combination, and you will switch them between drivers. It helps if you have magnetic numbers for this - tape-on paper numbers make this process much more difficult.
You can run the same class or different classes. Malia and I found it was better for our marriage if we didn't run in the same class, so she runs in our Ladies class (LAD), and I run in an "Open" class.
Oh, and minimizing the amount of stuff you need to change helps too. We actually ran the same number, but since we ran different classes we only had to change one magnet on each side of the car.
