I'm thinking about autox in my 09 Jetta TDI 6spd manual in a stock class or PAX stock street tire class. Can you guys tell me what class that would be? I'm not sure if the TDI would be classed with the other Jetta's or not. Other TDI's have been classed in H stock. Also, would the optional 17" wheels be legal for TIR?

According to the 2009 SCCA Solo Rules, it should be in HS.

That would seem to be the logical conclusion but I wasn't sure if the new 2.0 TDI engine would make a difference.

I think it's the "(all diesel models)" that is your catch-all in HS

As long as the wheels were factory-orderable, they will be stock legal. Almost any (non ST) class is legal for TIR, it just affects your underlying pax - which in this case would be HS.

Great!! now I just need a set of wheels and some sticky rubber. The VW website shows optional 18x8" wheels as an option. I'm wondering if 18" would be overkill. I know alot of 18" wheels are really heavy and add too much unsprung weight.

does it have to be VW factory wheels or will any wheel with the same measurments be fine?

is 225 still the limit for TIR class?

Dustin, be careful with this one. There are a lot of cars that on the configurators you can order "optional" wheels, but unless those are put on at the factory (not at the port or dealer), they are not optional for stock legality.

If they show up on the factory window sticker, they're legal, otherwise, no. - AB

yep, that's my point exactly. How can I find this out before I spend money on wheels and tires.

What Aaron said is right on the money. If they show up on the window sticker - and NOT the little window sticker addendum that dealers put on there next to it - they should be fine. If you've got further questions, call the dealer you bought the car from.

There is no 225 tire width restriction in TIR class - that's for ST and STS.

Send a note to Doug Gill : dgill@scca.com

Tell him your car and the wheel options on the configurator and ask him if he can get a clarification of what is legal.

Personally, I would call a VW dealer and ask if they have an '09 TDI's on the lot with the 17" or 18" optional wheels. If they do, go down and take a look at the window sticker and see if they are on it. If so, you're golden, but likely, they're on a separate window sheet with port/dealer options.

I was configuring VW's recently and saw all of the wheel choices available, and for stock legal wheels (by the SCCA definition) it's very unusual to have more than 2 wheel choices that are stock legal. The Celica I used to drive in stock had 2 choices: 15x6.5" or 16 x 6.5" - AB

Right indeed - I should have highlighted the "factory" part of my comment. Dealer-installed options don't count.

if the 2.0l twin cam tdi, reaches showrooms soon. it should be competitive with like e30 bmw E series cars. would that be H stock. diesels are catching slowly the gas cars.

not a stock jetta, but cool nonetheless.

new twin cam specs.

i know it wont be the next super stock champ or anything. but we are getting there. though i have figured out how to launch a prius.

you stop, mash the gas and brake, load it up till the engine lights,
get it to rev a little, then jump off the brake. hit the gas, it wont spin the tires or anything. but it does take off alot quicker if you do that, then if you dont. it is pretty good for being a hybrid car. it is just not exactly intuitive.
