Karl, I can't recommend CCW for a "lightweight" wheel. When we ordered wheels for the Crossfire, they were about 4.5# per corner heavier than he originally quoted for the low price of $2600.

We found Enkei fronts and Konig rears (with a 20mm billet spacer) that worked well, were over 5# per corner what was delivered by CCW and it cost us about $425 per set ($162 per front, $50 per rear (closeout)).

Unless they have actually built a wheel for that particular car, they are just grasping at straws to actual weights. - AB

You are joking right? Aren't these the wheels you have that leaked, and the offsets were wrong?

Enkei does have some options that are under 20lbs and reasonable around 250-350$ a wheel. That is more than I want to spend to compete at the local level though.

Yeah, I remember you saying that. I was, um, pretty worried while I was waiting to have mine built. Happily, they came in at about 15.5#/ea. when I finally got them. The stock wheels are more like 20-21.

Anyway, if you guys end up getting those Strano wheels, Bowie Jr. told me last week that he's got a machine shop he's found out in Burlington that does outstanding work. You could probably get those centerbores fixed up by those guys.

Yes, those are the ones.

Mine are the first - and only - set of AS-legal CCW Classics that have ever been made. They did them in an unusual way - the center section and the outer rim halves are machined out of a single piece of aluminum. Usually, they are built in three pieces - center, outer rim, inner rim. This was done to accommodate the +49 / +59 offsets I specified (stock is +55 / +65).

I think that as a result of them being built differently than anything else they've done, some teething problems were forgivable. They put it all right in the end, at no cost to me. They have told at least one other national AS S2000 driver that they weren't interested in building another set of them - I think they may have lost money on the deal. Since they're two pieces rather than three, the first set (with the wrong offsets) had to be thrown away and remade.

(Edit - minor clarifications)

I like CCWs and John does stand behind what he sells. They are expensive. They may not be the ticket for AX. For track use they will take the punishment of repeated heat cycles and stresses and last. I have to agree with Aaron on the "lightweight" thing. They aren't light in my mind. Very strong though and I had no leaking problems with either set of Classics I got. I bought them used.

The SP20As that are on my car for street are nice. Again, not light at all. Quite heavy actually.

His new Corsair 1 piece wheels are the way to go now. He doesn't even want to deal with 3-piece Classics anymore.

My stock Z06 Speedlines are very light and quite strong. I'll be using them more than CCWs since the price delta is too much.

What are the factory 17" wheel specs?

Is this a suitable replacement?

Wow, that would nice considering the weight. Just no way in heck I can afford those and tires. I have a cheap set of takeoffs on the way. Still looking for the high buck tires...

Per the Ford Racing catalog, factory 17x8s are 45 mm offset, 6.295" backspacing.
For the wheel Jason found, the 17x8 should be legal, though it will DECREASE the car's track by 10mm. The 18x8.5 version has 15mm less offset than factory, so it's not stock legal. Again, I worry about those skinny spokes on a cast wheel, on 3500+ lb car.

Are you saying the tire rack ones are reuseable or the factory ford ones are reuseable?

From what I've read the stock ford bands are not re-usable.

Y'know, if you're not worried about having the hottest set-up.. then find some stock 17x8s with OEM tires on them, like these: http://raleigh.craigslist.org/pts/1013347069.html

Or if you want some 18x8.5 bling:
http://raleigh.craigslist.org/pts/1012678842.html

I'd better go to bed now, I'm liable to start spending money.....

Jason Mauldin let me thrash on his S197 at lunch today.

That's a fun car that I could certainly run in FS. You guys are gonna have a blast.
