The "black lake shootout" took place in perfect weather this past weekend. Despite a little more than an hour delay each day (Sat to finish setting up the course after a heavy rain on friday made it near impossible to finish earlier, and a 7:00 AM Sunday sunrise made a 6:00 AM opening of coursewalks a highly over optimistic schedule) aproximately 225 competitors got 4 runs each day on the Roger Johnson designed courses. The courses were about 55-60 sec each and HUGE!!! about 1/2 again the size of each of this years nationals courses. They were both fun and challenging, heavily rewarding the correct line and patience. The perfect surface made the grip very predictable.
Saturday was the better course for our Solstice and Donna drove the wheels off it to post a time that put here in 10th in Pro class out of 30 drivers, and would have placed her 0.9 sec in the lead in AS open.
Sunday's course wasn't as kind to us as we were on the rev limiter in at least 4 places, but too late or not in a good place for a shift. We probably should have loosened the rear on sweeper exit a bit as well. I wish we could run at more venues with good sized sweepers so we can get a better feel for what fine adjustments we should make in similar situations. Had a similar issue on day 2 at nationals. Donna ended up 16th in Pro out of 35 and I was 19th.
Jim F spanked the entire field in his "cheater- should be in B/S" ITR   taking top place in Pro and FT PAX for the event! Congrats on some outstanding driving Jim!
I ca't wait to hopefully be able to run a similar size course at ACU4 in a couple weeks.

I wish I'd gone, but I just wasn't feeling it, this being so soon after the, um, "adventure-filled" trip to Nationals. I spent time out on the deck, practicing with my buffer, instead.

What's ACU4?

N00b!

Only the largest most perfect expanse of concrete that anyone in the SE is ever allowed on. Unfortunately it's a hovercraft parking area so goes directly into the water. This isn't bad, except the other side effect of this is that it tends to be a bit sandy so the grip is a bit less predictable than the black lake.

Now if one of our members who works for RDU could twist some arms with Homeland Security....

Here's where Todd works. He gave me a tour. I drooled on the golf cart.

The event this past weekend at the Black Lake was definitely a blast. The courses featured a great variety of elements with just the right amount of pacing and speed.

Video of my 4th and fastest run on Sunday featuring a ham-fisted missed shift from 2nd to 3rd.

I loaned my camera out to a friend and didn't get any video from Saturday.

Some things are definitely better left unsaid! Especially since I think his response just might be "body panels"!

Let's see.. Karl's buffing, Mike's drooling, Jim missed a shift, banks are failing, and the stock market is in a death spiral. At the rate things are going, I'll be down at Rick Hendrick pretty soon making a down payment on a Camaro

We'll have an intervention if that takes place. I hear you can get a great price on a brand new S2000.

At Laurinburg, "Mr. Jay" suggested that the S2000 Boy Racer could be had for as little as $31K.

Anyway, I checked the color choices for the 2010 Camaro http://www.chevrolet.com/camaro/insides ... d=cid00019 and alas, there's no Hawaiian Orchid on the chart. Deal's off.

If you can find a dealer who doesn't think that the CR is a true collectors edition. I got my brand new car for $29k which is almost $6k off the sticker. I looked at several CR's and every dealer wanted atleast $33k for them. I found a certified preowned for $28k with 2k miles on it but that dealer didn't offer my crap for my trade and you couldn't get the good financing on a used car that Honda was offering on the new ones. Part of me wishes I had gotten a CR but the other part of me really enjoys walking out of work and having the top go down at the push of a button. From what I have heard most dealers are being pricks about letting their CR's go which is why there are still so many around.

Leith in Raleigh has had their Apex Blue car in the showroom for a long, long time.

Keith's right though. Anytime the weather is like it is today, it makes me happy that I've got a softtop that can fold back at the push of a button. Besides, Eric (and Joe Tharpe) both demonstrated at Nationals this year that a "plain old" AP2 S2000 can certainly get the job done.
