The one nagging issue... This is something that would be noticed via a fairly casual mechanical inspection. I am somewhat skeptical that Andy went all season over-revving his engine (all the STS guys are going well above the factory redline), and never once pulled the valve cover to check the valve lash. Not even once? Maybe you don't do that on AX cars during the season (2 hours of time on a motor isn't that much compared to a track event where it sees that in a day).

Take a look at the SCCA schedule, and then look at the results. Andy went to about 85% of the Pros/Tours this year.... pulling his car/cars behind the motorhome. On top of that, he was doing his SEB work etc.. His last engine grenaded about 5 days before last year's ProFinale. I remember seeing him post pictures of an all nighter yanking the engine.

I just don't think it was something he was concerned about, especially for a car that was only used for autocross and on a freshened engine.

Personally, I feel bad for his situation due to his history, even though I think he's being perfectly honest here (about not knowing) and that giving back likely $10k in winnings this year (factoring in contingency money & Challenge money) is going way beyond the call of duty. - AB

Of course I don't know exactly, but Andy said in one of his posts that it was close to $15000 returned in contingencies.

That's not chump change.
