Equity in work assignments has never been a priority before, at least not while I was work co-ordinator. However thats an easy problem to solve, simply alternate the worker assignments every other event. This requires the WC to keep track, event to event.

It (equity) was when four runs was the rule, not the exception. :)

As far as requiring the worker coordinator to keep track of things, I'll use an analogy that Ryan taught me -- at every event we bring a five pound bag that we can shovel as much shit into as possible. Trying to put the sixth and seventh pounds of shit into the bag really makes a big old mess.

I'd also like to request that some people take the initiative Sunday morning to go out and sweep the course anywhere you see dirt, rocks, etc. that you'd prefer not to be driving on during competition. I drive a Subaru, so I don't really care either way. Those of you who don't drive Subarus may want to split the work up amongst yourselves. :P

No matter how much we shovel grass & dirt and sweep or blow rocks off the course during setup, I always hear some asshat complain about how dirty the course is, and suggest that "someone" should sweep it off. This is the asshats' opportunity to do something about it. (you know who you are) :stick:

As for the course design, Marcus and I agree on minimal cone use & the need for speed. Hopefully there will be some double-takes when people see how many cones are left on the trailer.

And another request for the workers: SPREAD OUT. If you can yell to the next worker and be understood, you're too close together.

That does it. Screw the family, I'm going. If I get up early enough I'll be well on my way to Laurinburg before the kids even realize I'm gone.

You guys better not disappoint me :) See ya on Sunday.

Having odd numbers of runs, when not all done in the same heat, does not provide equity in work assignments.

This statement has merit. 4 run groups might do better having 4 runs + fun runs. If T&T and the VPs thought a 5th run was doable, the morning heats would be better from the standpoint of heat and stamina. I still think that if we divided into 3 groups, 1 running, 1 resting,1 working, 5 runs is better if time is going to permit. My reasoning is that there’s always an outcry for 5 runs, so the majority of drivers must want that. Also, we travel a good distance and often have motel bills just to “go real quick” for about 4 minutes. 5 minutes would be better. Lastly, for me, at least, most of the fun is from competing and trying to better my time against others. Fun runs will never give me the same rush. So, for my $800 for a set of tires (and, yes, I know I’m getting off cheap!) I want to compete.

I agree, I want all my runs to count. I would rather be packing up the car changing tires instead of doing fun runs. (I smell a poll) :)

Brice, if I get a penalty, I will protest to the Gods and no one will know who won for a week :-)

I'm with you Gwen--I'd much rather have all my runs count. Having fewer competition runs while having fewer participants sounds counter-intuitive to me.

Plus, with three run groups we'd have 33% of all people working, while two run groups will only have 25% of participants manning the worker stations.

The key is going to be course design....in Laurinburg....with minimal workers. I have no doubts Marcus and Kevin can figure something out to give us a long course with minimal cone carnage.

We did a "Nationals" warmup a few years ago, and due to a hurricane (Katrina, or Rita) no one showed up because of "high" gas prices. We had about 12 to 16 people there.

6 to 8 running, 6 to 8 working.

Rarely did we have to stop the event because of cones down. The course was 60+ seconds long (I think).

It can be done.
