My advice: You want to be on the other side of the fence from wherever Randy is, and well clear in case he crashes through!

I'm definitely not doubting Randy's skills, don't get me wrong, but we can't really get on our high horse when we let that go on at our event. I enjoyed the heck out of it, and I at no point thought he was doing anything genuinely dangerous knowing that he was a VERY talented driver, but it WAS drifting, and it was probably at higher speeds than will be achieved at the event under discussion. If he HAD lost it, he could have done a LOT of damage (more than they would at this event).

That said, I really would like to see him show up the ricers myself.

so we now know which side of that fence you are on then, don't we Brice.

Randy has some fans, and well some detractors.

I think Brice makes a fine point!

yes Richard, he does. but if we are to condem the actions of other clubs we certainly can not look at our own ranks and still remain the top dogs. do as we say, and well you know the rest.

A public service announcement from the organizers:
Quote:
For interested participants - please try to pre-register no later than September 10th. We would like to have at least half the drivers pre-registered in order to go ahead with the event. Thanks!

Trying to get enough people pre-reg'd so we can actually have the event

Also, I have asked my buddy a few careful questions after reading all the critical posts here on the forum, and he said this is the first event they are putting together, as far as he knows, and JK Motorsports is the name of a local car shop that's coming up with a chunk of funding for the event...

Of course I'm new to all this, and don't know all the clubs and stuff, but seems like these guys might deserve some benefit of the doubt here.

Going back to their course map - that course looks to be awfully tight. Of course, I guess that's the idea for a gymkhana or drift competition. Personally, I think the SCCA A/X in Laurens http://www.thscc.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=8360
would be more fun, if only due to site they're using.

I'd think about going, but they'd probably not have the killer trophies that Triad has, and only the crappy magnets that Tarheel offers, so why even bother.

Bump. Anyone else going to see how this turns out? I'm going to watch just because it's close.

Why aren't you Rallycrossing? I am certain you are more of a driver than spectator!

Just got home a couple hours ago. Gotta say, I had a blast, though it's a completely different beast and I had no idea what to do out on the course at first. I DNF'ed on my first course walk!

I had experienced drivers instruct me and was able to improve my times from 58.xxx seconds strictly driving to 53.xxx seconds driving and sliding. Sliding helped a lot with the 180 and the figure-eight, but I sucked at the 360, don't think I got it right a single time. Must add here that I have never used hand brake while driving in my ample driving career before ;)

We got eight timed runs each in the morning and close to unlimited untimed runs in the afternoon. I had at least 20, maybe more, I stopped counting.

Wanted to thank Judi, Steven, and Vincent for stopping by.

Oh, and here's an action shot from today :)

Cool! Thanks for posting this Art!

I did not realize just how much I was on that rev limiter until I saw the vdeo ;)

This was one of my first runs, where I haven't figured out how to slide the car yet, a 58-second run... I got the times down to mid 53s later. They promised to have the results up today or tomorrow, so I get to see how everybody else did (there was no timing display and no PA).

From looking at the video, there was some serious rice at that event, and a lot of use of windshield wipers. . .

I've found that to be problem with a lot of Japanese cars. On Karl's S2000, you push the wiper stalk forward to engage the nitrous, so it's easy to flip the wipers on by mistake.
