Broken record but I like G'Boro:

- Closest to everybody in the state
- Potentially the largest competitor turnout
- More course variety with elevation changes
- Real bathrooms (quiet Spratte! :D)
- Actual course viewing when you're not running
- Shade trees while viewing the course
- A/C inside the Coliseum to take a break from the heat
- Tons of restaurants and hotels less than 5 minutes away
- Occasional clueless kid from the surrounding neighborhoods wandering through an active course serving as an obstacle

Bonus: Aggravating Art McDonald since it is in Triad's backyard.

Yeah but you miss out on the great people watching at the L'burg Wal-Mart.

For the record, I like Laurinburg for a big event.

It sure seems like nearly everybody I talk to outside of Tarheel doesn't want to travel to Laurinburg for whatever reason. I obviously don't talk to *everybody* but I do get around (um, not like that!) and I'd be surprised to see a "big" event at Laurinburg if you are using the number of competitors as your primary metric.

I'd love to be surprised, however. And I'll go no matter where the event is held. Even Continental. :|

I call shenanigans. 5 minutes goofing with Google Maps found:

Greensboro Coliseum to the Laurinburg Maxton Airport -- 116 miles, 2.25 hr drive
RBC Center to LMA -- 104 miles, 2.0 hr
Wilmington, NC to LMA -- 99 miles, 2.0 hr
Continental Tire, Charlotte, NC to LMA -- 107 miles, 2.25 hr
Asheville, NC to LMA -- 235 miles, 4.0 hr

But hold on -- Asheville, NC to the Danville Regional Airport is 192 miles and a 3.5 hr drivetime, and that's where Highlands held their NCAC last year, so that defines their cross to bear IMHO.

Other than Highlands, who would have to drive another 42 miles each way further than they did last year for their own event, it seems pretty similar in distance for all clubs in NC. What's more central than that? :poke:

Call whatever you want but I'm just repeating what others have told me in actual real-live conversations. Perception, perhaps? It's hard for me to comprehend personally but I'm dumb enough to be traveling over 4000 miles in the next month alone to attend events. :whoknows:

Washington, DC --> Gainesville, FL --> Toledo, OH --> Finger Lakes, NY all by the end of July. Laurinburg is like stepping out the front door. :D Even though I'm not too bright I'm not who you have to convince, either...

Maybe you should post those distances on the other club's forums when the time is right to help spur interest?

I'm sure it's perception. There are very few autocrossers coming from the directions that would get you nice big fluffy roads most of the way to LMA. The same could be said for Danville, though. But not so much Sanford or Greensboro. *shrug*

Let's just base it on my personal convenience. According to Google Maps, from my house to:

Danville Airport - 56.7 mi – about 1 hour 18 mins

Sanford CCCCETC - 66.7 mi – about 1 hour 15 mins

Laurinburg-Maxton Airport - 125 mi – about 2 hours 29 mins

Greenville - Dealers Auto Auction - 110 mi – about 1 hour 54 mins

Greensboro Coliseum - 54.9 mi – about 57 mins

uh-oh.... tell me again why I like LBurg?
