Mo, definitely like the 3/2 format, as well as waiting to call workers until they are needed (be stiff with your penalties if necessary to make this work).

I caused a big stir when I came on these forums bitching (disrespectfully) about a time when I got stuck working 4th heat, 3 runs after reporting when called (when it happened to be about halfway through the 3rd heat).

Now its solved (and without a run group wheel)!

Cosby, Phillip wanted me to thank you for letting him beat you. It was very nice of you, considering you've run about 5 times as many events as he has, and have pretty much the same setup (but with better front camber) on the exact same car. He says he'll pay you back by buying you some cheese dip sometime.

:moon:

That's fine. I guess maybe I shouldn't have driven the car for the first time on Saturday, then maybe I could have given him a better win.

Besides, he still has about 15 seconds to make up on me for the RallyX's. :P Maybe he'll be able to catch me in a few, oh I don't know, years.

Kudos to Wes and the gang for another successful Jimmy V charity event! I had a ton of fun both days and really enjoyed the 3-2 run format both days. I thought it allowed a great look at the course in the morning with enough runs to experiment a bit followed up by enough time to digest what happened and (attempt to?) apply what worked in the afternoon. Good stuff!

Both courses each day had possibly some of the best use of optional features where the (possibly) quickest route was also the hardest to execute. I haven't had a chance to look at any of the data from either day yet but I'm very curious to see what the differences were.

I agree on the 3-2 format. That third look in the morning session makes a huge difference for many reasons I guess.

Both days’ courses were outstanding. I don't think I've ever seen a course with two such perfectly designed/placed optional elements as on Sunday. They really made you think about the course taking into account the specifics of the car you're driving as what might be the "right" way with a 2200 lb 120hp car could be the wrong way for a 4000lb 400hp car, etc.

I thought both of the courses were incredibly fun while at the same time contained tremendous opportunity to learn lessons about car control, patience and proper vision. In fact, I think the Sunday course was best ~35-40 second course I've ever seen before. It was vastly more fun than some 90 second courses I've been on. One reason is that it works really well for refining technique and teaching since there are fewer variables to try to understand after each run. In addition it was fast which worked perfectly for instructing an intermediate autocrosser with some track experience (Jackie) to get comfortable with slithering the car at 50-60mph. I was really pleased with the courses from the standpoint of cone usage also (as were course workers in the heat/humidity too!). It's really nice to have a sweet, smooth course with great opportunity to learn that is coupled with a low cone count ratio. :)

Overall, a superb event -- one of those that you will remember for many years into the future.

I'd have to agree with that 100%. I certainly can't ever remember being more entertained with a course of that size.

Nor more frightened. :D

Loved the Saturday course. The fast sweeper to the Chicago box was awesome, even though I never did exactly what I wanted to do there.

My only complaint about the Sunday course is the fact that I was full throttle for the first 2/3 of the course, other than the braking & turning at the pivot cone, and very brief feathering through the sweeper to avoid going in the grass. While it was fun, it would've been more fun to have to lift hard or tap the brake somewhere through there. Loved the last 1/3 of the course, though. Slalom entry was extremely fun, then tossing the car through the slalom & the offsets was great. And I don't mind pivots at all, because I know the fast way around them & I have a car with a fairly tight turning radius. Just took a couple of runs to get my braking point right.

And thank you, thank you, thank you for not putting those damn V's out there somewhere!!! (or something equally tight and annoying)

Me 3 - not that I've seen that many courses myself, but I was amazed a course that short could be that much fun. Another vote in the 3/2 run format's favor here, too.

And cause I'm geeky like that - video!

Final run - 38.608

I'd read people describe the 'shakes' after a run - man did I get them this time :D !

Forgot to add - finally concentrated on really putting an Evo School lesson in practice. On the way to the start I must have repeated "What's Next" out loud to myself a hundred times.

The Sunday course was absolutely the most fun autox course I have ever driven. As stated by everyone above it really made you think and had enough speed to keep you on your toes!

HUGE thanks to Don for letting me give the Factory Five a whirl, I was really impressed with how well it handled and the incredible torque!!

All in all an awesome event, thanks to everyone who helped put it on!

PS - Having the water available was a lifesaver as well, I brought quite a bit but it was nowhere near enough. Definitely a great idea for these hot summer events.

I think that was the best autocross I've ever been to. And it's nice to be back to having a highly populated AS class. I've got some work to do! It's quite clearly not on the car, either. Maybe I should have stuck to club racing...

I thought about the talk of a short-ish course being so much fun, and you're all right on the money. It was dynamite. Launch at 6KRPMs...left right...and up the runway. Which was pretty much full throttle in the S2000. I'm sure some of you heard me and Eric giving the rev limiter a workout.

And as turnarounds go, I actually like pivot cones best. On a runway course like that, where you're sort of doing a "out and back" kind of layout, this leaves the driver with the most options. And visually it's easier to pick up than some of the designs I've seen over the years where people try to be clever.

Yep Saturday results are up.

HOWEVER, these results were NOT audited and errors may exist. I will NOT be making corrections to these results as this was a NON points event.

That was a great course - probably the best we've run at Sanford in a while.
Thanks to all that made it happen.

Excellent event, thanks everyone!

I personally like the pivot cones, mostly because I seem to have little trouble with getting them pretty much where I want. Nice to have something I feel like I'm getting exactly right. ;)

Unfortunately, I'm being a slow learner on the transition from TransAm/allseason to Mazda3/rcomps. I'm still throwing away time by overdriving the tyres and not letting them hook up properly. I'd have been happier taking another half a second off my last run, which I think I could have done had I not scrubbed away speed on the section after the slalom by taking it too fast.

As for the remaining .4 of the .9 Emmie beat me by, well I'll just have to find that somewhere else. But I do have some ideas where it might be lurking. :D

I finally got a couple of videos uploaded from last weekend. I must have broken Google (oh noes!) because the upload attempts there have been processing for over a day now. I've tried youtube in the past and it always seemed to butcher the quality but now it is *much* better so I guess I'll be using that account from now on. I'm not sure what they changed but it is much better than Google video now.

Saturday's 5th run

Sunday's 4th run

I should have a quickie peek at the data from the optional course elements sometime in the next day or so if anybody is interested.

Jim
