I need new tires.

I'm trying to decide between 225/45/15 and 275/35/15.

The dillema is that I currently have a set of 15x8 rims, and I don't plan on purchasing a new set of rims right now. Any thoughts?

It's too bad there's nothing in between those two sizes.

The tires are.

The 18s make my rotors look too small, so I HAVE to quit using them.

Then I think you are screwed and you will have to run 225's unless you can squeeze the 275's on. :?

I think the 275's can be squeezed onto the 8" rims. I just don't know that they should be.

What tires are you refering to? We're running 295 30 18 A6s on 8" rims on the Solstice. But Kumho 285 30 18 V710s won't bead on an 8" rim.
I have a set of nearly new A6's in 225 15 I can make you a deal on.

Chuck, those Kumhos WILL bead on the 8" rim. I'm not going to say how, but it can be done. It has been done.

Would that be enough to give you the advantage that you need? :P

Chuck, I was looking at those sizes in the Hoosier A6 tires.

These are still available. Older of course but properly stored and I'm willing to listen to offers. My cell is still the same.

Thanks,

Tom

Jason, why don't you just buy what you're already using? Seems like they're working rather well.

I know, I know.

There are two reasons.

The car feels numb with the 18" setup, which makes it a little less fun to drive. The numbness is most likely coming from an increase in weight by 15-20lbs per rim/tire combo, over the 15's.

my 15" rims: 16lbs
my 18" rims: 26lbs

That's before the weight difference in the tires. I also think the gearing change adds to the numb feeling.

Obviously numb isn't necessarily slow.

The second reason is the cost. I know it's only a $300 difference, but I have a mental barrier of spending over $1200 for a set of tires that will get less than 100 miles of use. That puts an autocross costing me close to $150/event. Not counting gas.
