I thought the Fit was the Duke FSAE car this year...? 8)

Chris, I'm glad you're driving w/ Jim- I've got Dave co-driving my old jalopy. Should be fun...

Not possible, the Fit has floorboards-- I checked...

The big question is what tires will Mr. Branscomb be sporting? Sparkling fresh BFG's, perhaps?

I'll be on some crusty Kumhos made roughly around the time of Moses so that should be entertaining.

Is the car actually running well enough to do testing, or are they still throwing it together at the last minute like usual?

One of the really important things that we did the one year we did well when I was there was to get people seat time in the old car. It was a time crunch when you have to build a whole new car from scratch but worth it. Let whoever is in charge know that it is CRUCIAL not to steal parts from last years car to build the next years. Having a running car allows you to do testing, as well as build interest and determine who the better drivers are.

There was a push by some people on the club to let those who contributed the most to the design drive, which IMO is exactly the wrong way to do it. All the design in the world doesn't mean anything if you can't drive it. With what I've seen, you should be able to seperate yourself from the crowd pretty well (although driving an FSAE car is very different than ANY street car, Feinbergs CRX is a PIG by comparison).

OK, off topic rant over.

Weird. I didn't know my name was plural.

Besides, my PIG flies! Or maybe it has flies. I forget which...

yea it's a time crunch, they just started testing a week or so ago. last years car completely broke or blew or something, so there is no old car to drive.

jims, the PIG has flies. i checked...i know it doesn't fly, i almost put it in a ditch

yay crusty kumhos! first event for me w/ race tires, and in another foreign to me car.

Um, I did mention my "you break it, you buy it" policy, right?

Just how much is that Fit worth, anyway? :)

You sure? Remember that set we ran at VMP? At least two of them will be making a return appearance this weekend and if that ain't crusty, I guess I don't know crusty. Maybe I should just run the Azenis... :?

Ugh. . . I forget we didn't kill all four. Put those on the front for Lin and then swap in grid for your runs. :P

Man. I'm going to make sure I have a good time in Chicago. I'd like to run that car at something other than Nationals and on a course that isn't the sort of thing put together by a chimp off its Ritalin.

That's the plan after Chris' first post. I'll probably throw those corded Hoosiers on the rear to help balance out the lack of front grip. I'm hoping Chris won't look at the tires too closely and thank goodness I got that annual tech sticker at the Evo school! :D

I suppose more people would do it at Duke if they gave course credit though (like almost every other engineering school in the country does).

I know GA Tech and NC State don't give credit for it...it's just a club. Jackie is in the Motorsports club at GA Tech, and she did the summer Wolfpack Motorsports class a few years back. From what I can remember of her college trips, there is no course credit at Clemson or Vanderbilt either. VA Tech definitely does it as a course, and it is difficult to get into, so it's a whole different environment there.

Mr. Feinberg,

I've got ahold of some of the preproduction BFG R1A tires to test out for BFG this season. Word is that their hot stick is way beyond the A6 or V710. Especially now that the SEB has one-off approved camber plates and a limited slip for 330i's in D-stock to offset the 135i advantage, it ought to be a fun season -- see you Sunday in Danville.

Chuck

Well, actually, I did buy another set of 245/40-18 BFG R1s simply because they will last on the camber challenged front of the 330i, and with Jackie home this summer, we'll be co-driving it a fair amount. The first set of R1s lasted somewhere in the range of 140 runs...the rears were still going strong. I'm glad you bought this up though as I need to put them on the car and heat cycle/scrub them in before Sunday.

Don't get me started on Duke FSAE...

It's coming back together this year but last year it was a mess.

I don't really have time to do it because of NROTC, but I might work on it some this summer.

One of the seniors on the team, after having borrowed a 944:

"After having driven that POS for a week I now have a lot more respect for you beating Sellers (one of the drivers) in autox..."

I would love to battle Chris in the FSAE car- I told them to try to come to Danville on the 4th! It might happen.

Please tell me you are kidding about them bringing the FSAE car to Danville!!!!!

If they are, there is no way any of us will be getting home at a reasonable hour!!!!!!!
