Now that is the quote of the day. Thanks for the laugh Wes. I needed a good laugh after hearing this news, even though I am not 100% convinced the 135 will decimate DS.

This should be no shock. hollis, et.al have been saying that the Cooper S stayed in GS because they intended to speed up DS in the not too distant future.

the 128 is there as well I assume (curious b/c right now this is the leading candidate on my "what car would I replace my mazda with today if I got a big enough bonus at work to pay it off")?

Speed up DS...by a long shot. C&D has the 135i as a 13.3 @ 106mph 1/4 mile car, 0-60 in 4.7 sec. If you can get traction with the open diff, it will fly -- faster than most all, if not all, A-stock cars. It weighs almost exactly what the E46 330i ZHP weighs (within a few pounds, ~3370 lbs), but it is putting out humongous torque and underrated "300" hp. It is shorter than the E46 by ~2.5" wheelbase and 4+" in length. The only incredibly slight handicap it has compared to the E46 is the 7.5" front wheel width (just making it that much more "fun" to try to mount a 245/35 V710 on).

I don't think it'll dominate DS, but I'd put good money on the fact that it won't touch AS.

Anyone getting one better see if there's a way to fit a BIG front swaybar on it, that's for sure.

I agree. Apparently Steve Snow (14th at Nats in DS in 2006 in 330ci) bought a 128i and has been thoroughly underwhelmed. He thinks his 330 handled quite a bit better out of the box, so maybe it may not be a huge deal after all. Now I can say that a site like Heartland Park, 135i will struggle, due to gearing and grip.

Hell, I may not be running DS at Nats this year anyway. I picked up ride at the Doublecross in a Shelby GT in FS ;) - AB

Well, I was going to reply that the SEB was just trying to lump all of the ugly cars into one class, but then I saw Aaron's announcement.
I'm signed up to co-drive Karl's S2000 in the Doublecross. Queue the film ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAbfUa_fN0E
