I ran my First autocross at the auto"squash" event in Sanford. I placed sixth in the final scoring. I was wondering considering one of the people that ran in Novice class and ranked higher than I did wasn't really a novice but doesn't run often enough in his mind to advance. SHould I run H-stock or Novice class? either way doesn't bother me but I was just wondering. Also While I'm thinking about it, Do you have to attend the Novice school On sat Feb 28 to attend the test and tune on sunday. I'm wondering cause I have to work on sat :cryin:.

You can run in Novice class for 3 events, or until you trophy, whichever comes first. As to "one of the people that ran in Novice class and ranked higher than I did wasn't really a novice but doesn't run often enough in his mind to advance" this guy, sounds like now that he/she has trophied, they can't use that one any more.

Can't answer your second question absolutely so I'll not even make a guess.

Just run HS. If you have to ask, then you should move up.

As for the test and tune vs school...

This is kind of a touchy subject with me, so please take anything I say with a grain of salt (also consider that I'm currently sick and have little sense of humor...)

Test and tunes are for experienced autocrossers. There is a fundemental assumption that the people there will be testing and tuning, and know their way around an autocross. If that sounds like you, then by all means sign up, if not, then come to watch, or stay home where it's warm.

Additionally, as the name implies, there will be testing and tuning going on. That means trying new things/parts. If we hold an event for *everyone* then at best you might get 4 runs. Of course, 4 runs is good for nothing in the testing and tuning world. The event should be sized such that people can get 10+ runs and have some time to make car changes between runs. Of course to do that, the registration list will be very short.

No you don't have to do the school in order to do the test and tune.

One way to handle it, students run on Saturday and the Sunday T&T is open only to the Saturday instructors.

If you are not very experienced, even if you are, these test and tunes can be dangerous to your learning curve. IMO, you have a 90% chance to develop or reinforce bad habits and 10% chance to actually improve your driving habits. But hey, knock yourself out.

If you a student in the school you will get PLENTY of runs. Way more than you'll ever get in a normal autocross event which is usually four.

My opinion (which has never counted for much btw) is the students should not be allowed in the Test-n-Tune. However if you wanna come out and hitch a ride with some of the really experienced folks (if they'll let you) then by all means show up.

I'm not that good, but you're welcome to hitch a ride with me.
