If you were to stay in GS, I'd toss some OTS Koni yellows on there. Run them full soft on the street for daily driving and then crank the rears to full stiff for AX events, run about 55 pounds of pressure in the rear tires a saner 40 something upfront and see if you can get it to handle better before I started dumping money in HP.

Which is essentially what we're doing. GS too! Unfortunately, in our case, the struts have to be hacked to make way for Koni inserts which is/could be a PITA.

We found a $2300 dedicated AX vehicle that we're familiar with and can work on ourselves. Now when I find time to change the clutch, I may actually get it to the 2nd or 3rd event this year.

So after some deliberation on the way home from the Novice School, I have decided that I will be staying in GS and simply focusing solely on improving myself as a driver rather than trying to upgrade the car - something that I had told myself when I first began Autocrossing late last year, but allowed myself to succumb to the modding bug far too early. Today's performance sealed the deal when I fully realized how it was me and not necessarily the car that was preventing better times from being had.

As always, thanks Phil for all the friendly advice you provide out on the course, Bobby for the instruction at the Novice School, and everyone else that talked some sense into me.

Most importantly of all, I had an absolute blast today with the course and thoroughly enjoyed the Novice School yesterday. It was nice meeting some new faces through out the course of these two days as well.

Mike,

If you want to be competitive then you made a good choice. I went the route you want to go (Ecutek/exhaust/sway bar) and now drive for fun because the power upgrade is not (necessarily) what make you faster. I was more competetive in AS before boost changes. Have fun, it's all a blast.

Going all the way back to the original intent of this thread, is it the general consensus that one should enter into TIR if they wish to keep their car stock and stay on street tires?

Did you trophy out of Novice? If so - congrats! Otherwise I'd stay in Novice until you're forced out by results. TIR has some pretty stout competitors.

I am still in favor of YLN. One trophy does not a competitive driver make and it will foster competition among the novices. If there is a real NOV that is running away with the class they may move to open or they may just be the Tarheel equivilent of Lewis Hamilton.

I honestly don't mind the thought of staying in NOV... it will save me a couple of bucks by not having to pay for some TIR magnets.
