That is a big-ass parking lot. Interesting that they didn't seem to snake the course around back on itself to make it more compact like they usually (have to?) do- looks like it basically just went down 1 side and then over. Looks like it woulda been a long walk to the farthest worker stations.

I think the courses for the Tours there are very "runway-ish" so they can be assured of a small overlap between cars. With 280+ competitors running each day, it is understandable. A few people complained about that at the event but I don't see too many other alternatives.

They were definitely on the fast side as David and I saw the rev-limiter in 2nd a few times each day. And that was running the monster truck-sized 225-50-15 Kumhos on the front of the car which put us ~64mph. Most of the other R's at the event were in 3rd gear in those same spots running the shorter Hoosiers. Bryan and Aaron spent a good deal of time in 3rd as well.

I've run a few smaller events there in the past and they definitely had a better degree of course variety. The area is rather large as you noted and it's too bad it's so far away.

Jim, as usual, very nice driving...especially considering you don't have much seat time in the car. The Type R looks like a lot of fun! Between you, David, Aaron, Bryan, and Keith, THSCC should have a bunch of trophy winners and top contenders in D Stock at Nationals and the Pro Finale this year. It will be fun to watch you guys battle it out all year long at local events, what great practice that will be for all of you.

Sincerely,
Chris Peterson's Husband

Thanks Eric-- your comments are always very much appreciated!

This season is definitely going to be a blast. The biggest surprise at this point is how evenly the Type-R and Crossfire stack up when viewing the run data from last weekend. For 2 cars that are entirely dissimilar on paper, their overall performance is nearly identical once rolling. Pretty cool stuff for a geek like me...

Jim could you post some of that data or maybe send it to me so I could get a look at it. I am really curious to see some numbers on the two cars. Wish I could have been there but my shocks are still at Koni and should be back next week. I am looking forward to a lot of battles this year with you guys. TIA

Heck, when I was mentioning how tough DS is going to be this year in THSCC, I left out Chuck B., Keith Q., and Matt M. Wow - 8 national class drivers in one class running in the same club is really amazing.

Finally got a chance to upload a video from Saturday for the family and thought I'd post it here in case anybody needs help sleeping. :)

That is run #3 for me and it is definitely a good representation of being unfamiliar with a car. The opening turns were decent but then I proceeded to slow down way too much for a couple of spots and was a total wuss through the slalom and final lane change maneuver. I'm hoping I can get some of that out of my system next weekend at Laurinburg even though the surface is totally different.

It's also painfully obvious that I need to hook up my shift light as I popped the rev-limiter in 1st in 2 spots which is never the best indicator of when to shift. David and I are having a bit of a hard time adjusting to the high-rpm shift point in the R during the heat of a run to say the least.
