Are they necessary? I may have to go the tape and paper route, since I haven't had my magnets made yet. Can Jack Rabbit turn an order around in a day?

Not necessary. The timer is usually set up, but no one keeps track of the times. No one will be calling cones either.

Of course, if you want to show off new numbers, we'll be glad to tell you they're unsatisfactory :)

The following rant/plea is NOT directed at Jeb:

We've been regressing on car number/class readability for a while now.
As a T&S worker, I got pretty frustrated with some of the examples I tried to decode last season. Some were just cobbled togther and unreadable from the bus, but some others were carefully crafted, and still unreadable.

The recommendations for class/numbers are still posted on our website:
http://www.thscc.com/autocross/info/numspecs.html

In addition to noting that red/black doesn't provide enough contrast, I can also tell you that yellow/white is worse. Adding a dark border around numbers that don't contrast with the body of the car really doesn't help much either.

Finally, the paper numbers are just a stop-gap measure for novices (first 3 events in my world) or if your numbers are already claimed. If you're running regularly, please get some real magnetics or cling-on numbers and letters. The blue tape frames around the paper numbers hurts readability. Having the paper number peel off during a run (and not fixing it before your next run) is also a problem.

Thank you.

This past year there had been some really bad ones. The question is, why are we allowing them to run with those numbers. Prevent them from driving and they'll either fix their problems or won't come back. But I'm harsh like that.

We've talked about this issue; cars with unsatisfactory numbers will not be released from grid before the issue is resolved.

Then there’s my personal favorite…..the car that showed up several times last year with camouflage numbers. That’s just wrong in so many ways!
