Went to the Triad test n tune yesterday, and wanted to say a few things that I hope will be considered for our club's test n tune.

1. Contact the weatherman and tell him to cancel any ridiculous wind.

2. Skidpad / slalom elements that were "free runs" all day worked well as long as there were people on station. The skidpad was a good tuning opporunity, as long as people weren't trying to drift the thing.

3. It was a fun event, but the 30-second "course" left a bit to be desired.

Class time; look forward to seeing some of you at the next Tarheel event.

To be honest how they made use of the available lot was very good. The LJVM is not known for having big courses. This course allowed a very high turnover which was required for everyone to get 7 runs in. We gave 80+ people 7 runs (some took more and played dumb when we confronted them) and were still packed up and out of the lot by 4:30. I believe the final run count was 597 runs completed on the main course.

I had a very fun day despite the crazy wind. I got to drive a 2003 S2000 and it was a blast despite the course that was pure evil to an S2000. On a 30 second course we upshifted twice and downshifted back to first as well (I guess I have gotten spoiled driving the Crossfire where you never need to downshift to 1st). One thing I did learn is that 2 year Toyo RA1's are not the hot ticket on an S2000 when it is 50 degrees with 20-30 mph wind.

Spratte and I bailed out on the Triad TnT at the last minute and went up to VMP to run with NASA. The course left a lot to be desired in a few places but we were able to get 7 runs in (well, I did anyway) and learned a little bit about the new car despite running on 2 year-old 150+ run V710's. Those things were bricks to say the least.

I don't know how bad the wind got in Winston Salem but the wind at VMP reached absurd levels by the end of the day. As David was lining up for his last couple of runs, the entire course started moving around from the wind. They even had the cones "double-stacked" and it didn't keep them from moving 5-10 feet at a time or just blowing over altogether. I'm guessing some of those gusts were in the 50+mph range by the end of the day. They finally gave up with the moving course and called the 3rd heat short depriving David of his last run.

Trying to change tires and pack the car was absolutely crazy. The wind was gusting so hard that it was literally blowing us over while trying to kneel down and change the tires. We had the added bonus of being sand-blasted from the unpaved area and wound up with so much sand in our hair that we could have easily passed for a Spider Man villain. :D I've definitely never been in anything quite like that before.

If that wasn't enough, we wound up getting stuck in a 2-hour traffic jam on I-85 for what turned out to be a forest fire. I'm guessing the wind wasn't helping that situation at all! A very strange day to say the least...

I think gusts in the RTP area were supposed to be in the 45-50 mph range. I was working on the car in the garage with the door open and I had gusts that were knocking over stuff deep in the garage and blowing posters off the wall.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

Actually I got deprived two runs given that I was red flagged during my last run and they called it before I could get my rerun.

First drift event ever. And by drift I mean, the cones were drifting across the lot.

I still can't get over how bad parts of that course were when they had so much real estate to work with.

Maybe it was a sign Jim. The whole day had a wrath of god feel to it. VMP was in the wrong place, the wind, the fire. I got home and the power was out.

Maybe an ITR in DS.
Or half-assed STX prepped 330.

Hey, on the bright side, the Mini didn't get crushed in my driveway! :D

But you're right-- the only thing missing was a horde of locusts.
