Good point. But at least I'd have a Ford though!!

The Chebby looks awful damn good. I'm not too hot on the Dodge though.

+1

That car has me thinking bad thoughts!!

Until the new Camaro & Challenger are out in a year. Then you have $30,000 invested in an underdog.

Isn't the Camaro going to roll out on ridiculous 24" wheels or something like that? :D

Agreed. Did you find anything on which springs it was going to use? At last check that was the last point of contention that nobody had heard for sure on to know if it would be as good as the Shelby GT or not.

Nothing solid. A bunch of guess work. You know phrases like:

The 2008 Bullittt package enhances the Mustang GT Premium package with the following:

3.73:1 Limited Slip Rear Axle
Ford Racing Power Pack (cold air induction system)
High Performance Calipation
Performance Friction Carbon Metallic® front pake pads
Ford Racing Strut Tower pace
Sport –tuned suspension (shocks/springs/stabilizer bar)
Modified “H” Pipe

some other lame stuff preceded by words like "faux" and "distinct."

or even. . .

New Unique shock and strut tuning
Rear spring change that lowers Vehicle Ride Height by approximately 6 mm
Carbon metallic front brake pads

I mean, if Ford is bragging about upgraded consumables (brake pads) I can't believe they wouldn't advertise the suspension, unless they aren't wanting to cannibalize the Shelby sales.

But I've given up a long time ago trying to understand the method behind the madness of domestic car branding and marketing.

I saw a black C5 Corvette at New Hope Commons yesterday, with chrome 22s. The sidewall was so short I could barely read the dimensions (it was getting dark too), but the fronts were 235mm, so I don't think the combo offers much of a performance advantage. So let the Camaro have the Conestoga look :)

I don't double clutch in autocrossing. No time even in the slowest car I ever autocrossed (Datsun 260Z). I need to focus on braking.

FYI do the new Mustangs lend themselves to the one side of your foot on the gas pedal, one side on the brake pedal style of heel-toe? Thats what works with my 01 Mustang for street driving (where I double clutch every downshift) even with relatively narrow size 8.5 shoes.

Dick, why double clutch at all?

On something like a Formula Ford I guess I can see it...but on a street car with a decent transmission, why hassle with it?

Sycro's are consumable wear items, just like brake pads. I tend to keep cars for a very long time. Plus, I need to match revs before letting the clutch out anyway so might as well accomplish both at the same time. I match revs for the good of both the clutch (another consumable wear item) and to keep from dragging the rear tires (front if I ever buy a fwd car, both if I ever buy a awd car).

Dick, In my opinion, no. I have a little trouble spanning the gap between the brake and gas with a size 11D shoes. However, the real problem is that the brake pedal has a long, soft travel and the throttle is insensitive to a quick blip. The slow throttle response is a personal recalibration issue, but the brake pedal feels like it's never going to stop traveling down, so I don't have anything to brace the left side of my right foot against when I try to rock my foot over to blip the gas. (Maybe my technique is all wrong, but that's the way I taught myself in my mighty mighty E-Stock Civic and it works well on the 90 Mustang.) Anyway, I'd be happy to let you drive mine and form your own opinion :)

Art - Bummer on the soft brake pedal and the slow to respond throttle by wire. Your technique sounds fine. I wonder why Ford backed off on those two important areas when they made so many improvements in other performance areas. Thanks for the test drive offer - even though my budget really cannot handle the temptation.
