Just a quick glance looks like everyone got closer to AM

GS and FS got teh biggest jump
ST* looks like it got hit HARD
CSP and FSP as well

Well David, I just found a 1/2 second in PAX against you on a 60 second course. Only 2 1/2 more to go!!!

Any stats dorks wanna run the last PAX results with the new PAX?

Just to be fair, balanced and consistent.... PAX SUX

So GS is ahead of DS now. It's going to be tough to beat Rob Turner in raw time.

Hey, Malia,
Looks like I just found another .44 seconds on CS on a 60 second course. Now, what to do, what to do.

At first glance most of the numbers look very reasonable. GS and DS are a bit of an oddity especially if the Minis are staying put but there isn't anything really earth-shattering in the changes from my point of view.

If the Minis move (which I don't think that they should), it would obsolete a bunch of competitive cars and would render GS a wasteland of boringness. IMHO.

That's just wrong. What happened to SCCA's rule of thumb GS=compact cars, DS=fast compact cars?

Oh well. No dog in this fight, I never plan to own a DS or GS car ever again anyways :) Actually I take that back, I'm shopping for a 330ciC but not for autocross...

Here's a post from SCCAforums listing the changes in order of magnitude:

Classes evolve. Besides, it seems to me like the SCCA keeps trying to put stuff in DS to speed it up and it just doesn't work. Note that PAX is simply a result of data, too, not something the SCCA creates (and is done completely independent of the SCCA).

Speaking of which, is there a link to a description of how the PAX is calculated each year? Just curious if it is based on the performance of 1st place finishers in each class or what.

You'll have to ask Rick Ruth. I don't believe that his formula is publicized.

I don't think he relies on an absolute formula. From what I've gathered, he does use some form of number crunching as a guide but there is equal parts speculation and intuition mixed in there as well. There is also the notion that no two classes will share the same PAX number in a given year.

Ultimately it is probably decided by the old auto-x formula: "90% driver, 5% car, & 5% crazy mojo!" :D
