Suddenly I feel like my car belongs in DS. That way, I can put my initials on it so everyone knows it's mine. :P

That's wild. I'd assume the Mini guys and gals would favor this instead of being tossed in with the ITR's and 330's in DS in '08.

Pure speculation but if Rick Ruth received advance notification that the Minis are staying put, he might believe that the '07+ cars are only going to get faster which very well may be true. If he received notification they are going to get moved, then it really doesn't make any sense to me.

Regardless, you are talking about less than a 2-tenths swing between the 2 classes on a 60-second course from 2007 to 2008 so it isn't a huge change or anything. We'll all find out very shortly unless somebody wants to slip Donnie some sodium pentothal in the meantime. :)

On the surface, it looks like a good year to be driving an HS car locally. Hmmm.....

And a bad year for STS2. Coincidence? Welcome (back) to stock class Jim. Now you have to pick a caR. :poke:

I don't think STS2 looks that bad relative to the rest of the classes. Sure, it was a big jump but *most* classes got much harder. The only real surprise to me is the fact that STS2 is now supposed to be slightly faster than ES. I haven't been paying attention that closely but I really don't remember seeing any consistent evidence to support that.

If I wasn't sick and tired of running the same car for the last 3 years, I don't think running STS2 again would be all that bad. Especially considering my car has a lot of development work I haven't taken advantage of.

Besides, I thought you were going to sell me you car? :D

mazda3 (HS)! Jeb is selling his right now (in stock form) too! You could even buy the konis he's got with it, as well as his exhaust and you're just about ready to go. Its already got Hawk HPS pads on it too. He's even got the lightest available stock wheels for it (if he didn't sell them, the '04 wheels are 19.4 lbs). Only downside is that its a hatch, but its actually not that much heavier than the sedans are.

Nah. The Johnson's have a BRB (British Racing Beige™) R53 as well.

Jim, you really think there's any significant development left in the 07+ Coopers? I mean. I'm pretty certain Ron Williams was on some custom valved Koni DAs, but even if they tweak the valving. . . how much more we talking?

Honestly, I have no clue. I've never even driven a Mini of any kind so I'm not in a position to make that judgment. The only thing that matters with respect to the PAX numbers is if Rick Ruth thinks they will get faster. I tend to think that some of the numbers are a touch off from year to year and assuming the Minis stay in GS, the GS and DS numbers seem to be off relative to each other for next year. Same thing with ES and STS2. It is interesting to note that GS relative to STS2 is about the same as last year and that seems to be fairly accurate. Of course, we also don't know if the ST* classes will get a huge kick in the pants with the new tires coming out so it is really a crap shoot.

With that said, I don't think they are way off and there are certainly enough other factors that it won't make a huge difference in the grand scheme of things. Occasionally there are glaring deficiencies (such as STS and possibly DSP a few years ago) in the numbers but it is such an imprecise science to begin with that I'm glad I'm not responsible for it.

As I've always said, the best way to judge speed between 2 (or more) drivers is to stick them in the same car. Even then, driver preferences play a big role so you need to look beyond just the numbers unless one driver is a *ton* faster than another.

Find the right E46 M3 for Matt, and you're set.

It seems that the Mini's are pushing GS too far. I looked at one of the national results on the PAX reporting page, and it took several pages before I saw any GS car that was not a Mini S.

Ha! I saw that one too. If I pulled the trigger it would have to be black or Laguna Seca Smurf Carolina Blue without a sunroof.
