We can just tell the starter to DNF the run before we start our run.

Here’s the Scoop on the “Switch Rides” Fun Event.

The idea of this Fun Event is to drive a car that you’ve wanted to AutoX but haven’t been able to. Or, you drove it once at fun runs and wondered how you’d do at an event. So, 4-5 runs in one car, not 4-5 runs in 4-5 different cars. Got to think of the Timing and Scoring guys! Go to the forum and do some bargaining so you’ll have things worked out ahead of time. If 5 different cars is your bag, you’ll need to register AM Class, and you’ll be responsible for keeping track of which runs were in which car. You won’t be eligible for trophies. (Not that we’re planning on having trophies……but if we do, it will be old stuff on the bus that we need to get rid of!) There’s just no way to figure out times if different cars are run, and besides, the bus will explode! Part of the fun will be at the end of the day when we post results!

Here’s how to enter:

Preferred: Pre-register USING the info, at least make and class, of the “switch” ride you intend to drive. Then it’s out there for all the smack talk you can stand.

2nd Choice: Pre-register using your regular car, but get things worked out with your switch and update your entry before the cut off date, which is the Thursday prior to the event.

3rd Choice: Pre-register using your regular car and you’ll have to come to registration the morning of the event and update your registration with your switch. Do this only if you love waiting in long lines.

4th Choice: Driving multiple cars; Pre-register in AM.

Remember, this event is a month later than we usually run, so the more changes T & S have to make that morning, the later we get started and the less daylight we’ll have.
Registration is open

so it turns out that I will be done with exams just in time for this event! :D

next question is: does anybody actually want to drive the 944? Rob, here's your chance to see that my "overpowered VW" isn't that overpowered  You got me by one pax place in Sanford! Good job.

Brice, sent you a PM a few days ago. When you get a moment, either PM me or send me an email. Trying to set up a swap between you , myself and Mike Miller that owns the MX5. Want to take this off list.

Thanks

Is there some minimum number of people that have to register for this to happen, or will it happen no matter what? Right now, only 21 are signed up. 10 runs? :D

sweet. Last time I ran at Danville was the Triad Trialcross. We had 21 drivers, and we got 8 runs, 2 laps per run, despite constant starting delays, a lunch break, and only one car on course at a time. I like seat time, this should be fun. I hope a couple more people sign up though so that we have workers, the trialcross had a 4 second cone penalty, so workers weren't as much of a problem.

If we can declare a DNF, this works better for myself and the folks I'm trading off with. The plan was to run our own cars and numbers for the first run. From there, we'll swap numbers on our switched rides and just declare a DNF at the start of the following runs. We'll keep track of our runs and what car we drive. Is this acceptable? This should minimize impact to the fine folks running T&S!

Sounds like a plan to me.

Remember, folks, the season is past. This is just for fun, fun, fun! I've actually talked to a couple of guys who plan to run a different car every time.

My plan is to prepare a course that is somewhat familiar, yet with new twists, fun to run, and simple to remember. Simple will be important since we want to be able to enjoy our switched rides instead of worrying about the course. I hope we'll have a good turnout and that the weather will be on our side.

I'm looking forward to seeing you there.

Gwen, how would you feel about me inviting some Porsche guys from Rennlist to come out? My concern is crowding our little for-fun event, although there is no telling how few or many might show up. There are a lot of piedmont-area people with 944s, 928s, and especially 996s on rennlist.

There is no password on pre-registration. Anyone who pre-registers may come. We need Pre-registration, however, because course design will depend somewhat on the number of drivers.
