I'm in agreement with everyone about the course- it was fun and slaloms are always great in my book. That crazy turnaround section with the waaay offset gate was not something to take lightly.

I found that the turnaround dictated the whole rest of the course. I got behind entering the last long slalom section a couple of times ultimately finishing without pegging the rev limiter.

However, my quickest run, the turnaround was done a little smoother by not braking too early or late (something I always do somehow), thus not putting me behind on the offset, then the slalom and allowed me to keep the R floored from the second to last slalom cone to the finish.

The gate right before the finish was awesome btw along with the first sweeper heading into the first slalom. I found that the grip diminished coming through the turn, making things interesting with extra rotation.

Now the backward fun-runs on Saturday, well, I think I get the noob award for that b/c I went three different lines each time getting lost.

Great job everyone.

Matt, what happened to you on Sunday? One minute you were there, the next, "poof," you were gone...

I hope everything is OK.

That's funny Stephen just asked me that same thing. Between the sunburn, lack of sleep, and Foster's oil cans at Outback I was spent and seriously doubted I'd drop any time. I actually drove back to Raleigh on my old V710's. I'll grow up one of these days...

Great driving Jim. You and David are having some awesome battles!

I really wish I could have made it. A quick Saturday pre-event check revealed the left rear brake pads wore faster than I'd expected when last I checked two weeks ago, and they simply weren't going to be safe to run. Time for new pads and rotors -- I was really hoping they'd last till the end of the season, too.

I could have run Kit's Mazda 3, but I'd had my heart set on running the Trans Am, was really looking forward to it, and it just wouldn't have been the same.

I'm glad it turned out so well!

I had a great time this weekend. It was a fun course and great socializing! I like the smaller events and esp the cooler weather!

Stay turned. Malia, win or lose, it’s been great fun running with (not against) you this year. Thanks!

Gwennie

Gwennie - I too have enjoyed racing with you this year! But I have been doing some calculating!

It is gonna come down to Sanford.

- If I take 1st and you take 2nd we will be tied for 1st for the season and we will have the same # of 1st, 2nd and 3rds.
- If I take 1st and you take 3rd I will get 1st for the season.
- If you take 1st you will get 1st for the season.

Its is gonna be a fun one to watch! Good Luck!

It gets even better:
If someone else shags 1st, you take 2nd, and I'm 3rd-we tie.
If this happens but I'm 2nd, I take the points for the year.
BUT, if someone takes 1st, you take 2nd, someone ELSE takes 3rd and I'm 4th, we tie.
This can keep going on til Sanford. Oh, the pressure.

I hear ya. It was Stephen and Judi that had me wondering as well. They asked me in the afternoon at the event since you were pitted next to me and, at the time, I didn't even realize you had packed up and headed home. Once I saw that your stuff was gone, I wondered if you had a minor emergency or something.

Thanks. It's rare that cars match up so well on index times and it has definitely been fun. David has been wheeling that Mini around, dare I say it, spectacularly this year.

I finally felt like I had a weekend where I was "on" from the get go. It took me 10 runs and 2 days to find .3 seconds which I don't think I've ever done before. Nothing like "peaking" 3 weeks *after* Nationals.

It was a fun course. I can't count the number of times I walked the turn-around section. It took me until the afternoon to keep a tighter line on the first sweeper. That helped set me up for the first slalom much better. With some really fun runs, that was 8 laps for Sunday! What a blast!

Hey, if you're fond of square right-front tires and ~10% longer braking distances, don't let me stop you.

Of course, this is coming from a guy driving a car whose rear brakes haven't functioned properly in 3+ years so, as the saying goes, know your source! :D

I thought it was a good course, but I struggled to find any grip. I might have had my expectations set too high after ride-alongs with Bernie and then Les in the first heat, but I think the main problem was that I toasted my Victoracers last month at Sanford. The tread surface felt rock hard and dry (crispy, to use Dick Rasmussen's term) when I loaded them on the trailer Friday, and I hoped that the first run would clean off the hardened Sanford tire goo and maybe they would be OK. Nope. On the other hand, I have to admit that after spinning during my first run, I was impatient to improve my times and would have none of that "dial it back and get a clean run" business, until I got to my last run of the day and had no other choice.
