Not everything has to be a conspiracy.

This has actually sort of just been a pet project of Marcus Meredith to do as they have at least one site up in his area that can accommodate this kind of event and he knows there are some others. The SEB certainly doesn't sit around worrying about market share, and AFAIK there's been no directive from the BoD to push on this.

If you guys will recall, I started a thread a few months ago about possibly doing one of these at Laurinburg. Didn't have a ton of interest.

OK, evidently that's what's new, in the past it was considered a Solo1 event (Time trial/track) Now the name remains, but it is sanctioned/governed by the Solo (formerly Solo II) Dept. Rules can be found in the solo section: http://www.scca.org/Garage/Index.asp?Id ... 090|005&~=

Nope, Im telling you its in the SOLO II regs. There is a crusty old book in the bus, I'll find it.

It sounds as if the Solo Trials are on the same lines of the CircuitX only not on a track. That could be fun.

I'm all about some high speed turns lately for some reason.

And they didn't do everything in their power to squash PRO including threatening to blackball SCCA members that participated in their events and filing a lawsuit against them...
Hardly worth worrying about. I guess the SEB just wanted to fill up their space in Fast track so they republished the rules out of the rulebook. :?:
Sorry to have mentioned it being there.
Moving on...

I'd love to do a ridiculously-fast novices-need-not-apply qualifications-needed type autocross somewhere. Can you link to your original suggestion?

For some ancient history -- when the TT program was getting its legs, we had at least 2 multi-lap test "alpha" and "beta" time trials at autocross sites to test the timing equipment. Those were fun events. I'd love to do another.

And on a related subject, Cosby was working with NASA on the Patriot course "circuit X" courses. However I believe VIR has nearly priced Patriot course out of the realm of possibility for something like this.

Our November member-only events have historically been uber-fast autocrosses but still single-lap events. Maybe it's time to legitimize a non-novice fast autocross format in the club?

I think NASA combines that with a bunch of other events simultaneously at VIR to help with the costs. They were promoting the idea to Triad (and probably others) at some point. Surprisingly enough, the events they did hold there were lightly attended. One of the events was the now infamous "snow cross" where a few cars were crunched. From a few first-hand accounts, the way the incidents were handled was less than ideal.

Well, it'll be easier domestically for me to go Iron Man next weekend and hit our Sanford event and the Regional in Verona on Sunday.

Have you been to Verona? It's been a couple years since I've been there, but I do not have good memories of the site. It has a super gravelly surface...I'm sure they'll do their best to sweep/blow the racing line clean, but you still might wonder if it's an autocross or a rallycross

Nope. That loose huh? We'll see. I'll decide at Sanford. Like I said, it'll depend on motiviation after Sanford and if I think I can make it back to RDU by 9pm.

Maybe an ITR in DS.

Circuit X at The Rock, maybe?

I've been wanting to check out one of the NASA events at Langley Speedway but haven't had a chance. Is there a comparable NC speedway that could host something like this?

Was I on the SEB back when PRO was around? Was I even racing then? I have no idea what they did then, but I'm telling you what I know now. If you think I'm lying to you, well, I can't control that...you really do believe in black helicopters.

IIRC, the point of publishing the rules was that they were dropped from the current rulebook and have been updated a pretty good bit, so they've been thrown back into the wild. Why? Because of some renewed interest in some places. Sheesh.

Thanks for moving on, though, as you've really not helped in the discussion in any significant way.

It's pretty bad in my recollection...when BRR first used that site, we didn't make much effort to clean the line, which made it kinda ridiculous. Since then, they break out the brooms and blowers, so it's better...but I wouldn't drive over an hour to go there. It's been a while since I've been there, but I haven't heard of any repaving or anything.

It's kind of a weird shape too...there's an ok-sized square along with a very thin, almost taxiway-ish rectangle...so you'll often end up with a pin turn.
