Well neither Eric nor I will be in the Miata this weekend. :x So I am not sure whether I will be driving my "Cheater car" or not. Either way I am not gonna make it easy for you Aaron.

Sorry about the Miata, Keith. You can thank Koni yet again for a shitty product. Yet another screwed up shock with very little racing on it since being redone. *sigh* These things really should last longer than this.

What's odd is that it doesn't appear wet, it just doesn't dampen on the dyno. The other three checked out fine, but this one was way off. We needed to pull them to adjust the bump a little (you have to take these out to do that) and decided to dyno them while we had them out to see what they did across a range of adjustments. Fortunately Koni is only 2.5 weeks out right now...they've been two months out at this point in the year before. *sigh*

In any event I'm sure you'll find a way to woodshed Aaron no matter what you drive. ;)

It is no ones fault well maybe some blame can be put on Koni. I am just amazed at how fragile these shocks seem to be. From all the bad I have heard about them from several people I am not sure I would ever use them for anything but something off the shelf. Thanks for the encouragement to whoop Aaron as well.

Hrrmm. Does the OTS stuff come from Germany? Sounds like Koni NA just **** up the stuff you need them to fix.

Great. I'm getting warm fuzzies about putting my DAs back on the MINI.

Maybe an ITR in DS.

I'll throw in $10 that at least one Koni get's blown at the NCAC.

I've blown three Koni OTS shocks. Can't tell you what happened to them, since Koni was useless and didn't want to do anything other then sell me another set of crummy shocks.

Had one OTS SA Koni leaker when we switched the Miata to DAs. Have gotten a lot of reports of poor Koni quality/non matching from the factory and especially from "authorized" rebuilders. Koni refuses to include dyno sheets even with their high $ custom stuff. That's why we are no longer using Konis.
Oh yah, their poor service is another reason.

It's possible that the shock (left front) was damaged when the ball joint let go at Laurinburg earlier this year and the suspension collapsed - the car has never been quite right since then. It will be interesting to see what (if anything) Koni said was wrong with the shock. It is really amazing that this is the third year in a row that we lose a shock one month before Nats and can't drive the car....nothing like doing your test & tunes and shock tuning during the Pro Final and Nationals :-) Oh well.

The first two sets of Konis I had were great. I put over 60K on the OTS Singles for the 94R Miata and never had any trouble with the them. The custom built DAs from Pro Parts for the Spyder lasted four seasons and over 50K before one finally blew. But, it's been all downhill since then with Koni shocks and some of their service centers. I do have to say that Koni NA has been pretty helpful, but the rest of their service dealers have provided poor quality customer service and substandared products/rebuilds.

Enough Koni smack-talk :D !

Back to the AX smack-talk!

I'll renew my $20 STS challenge - with the new suspension, tires, and last weekend's awesome tune-up I'm probably as fast as I'm gonna be without alot more seat time. Easy money for somebody

I did see Lee just got new suspension parts...

Who's in?

Or somebody want to match race for entry fee or dinner at the next THSCC event?

Since I'm out of the club cup (   !) I need an extra challenge!

AKA the "Buy Rodney's New Tires Challenge"

I tried to get it going at the last AX when we did the team challenge - I'd finally bought good tires and felt like I needed an extra push. One timing reflector later  ...

Nobody took me up on it then. I was thinking everyone (STS) throws $20 in a pool, winner take all. Now that I'm *not* running on worn-out shocks (and I hopefully learned the lessons from the tune-up), I'm thinking I may have slightly more than a snowball's chance in hell this time

Now if the club discourages straight-up cash stuff, maybe a dinner/entry prize would be better?
