Just out of curiosity, how much would it cost to rent Danville or Sanford for a day, a weekday? Has anyone thought of getting together a small group and doing such?

The cost gets expensive, when you have to factor in site rental, porta johns, insurance.... not to mention having 400+ cones and timing equipment. - AB

Even though I've already sent the cancellation email as a result of problems with my trailer hitch (and late delivery of my tires, among other things), I still desperately want to go. So, I extend an offer to anyone going that is trailering and has space.

If you are willing to carry 4 Hoosiers down in your rig, I'll pay your entry fee and cost for a t-shirt if you ordered one. I'll also split your gas bill with you. Just keep receipts.

karl dot shultz at gmail dot com is the email, or you can call me, at 919-454-4775.

It's a private forum, you only have to do your email like that in the forsale and visitor sections. Just fyi.

I'm going! I just verified with Heyward Wagner that I'm still on the roster.

Jim Feinberg called me a little while ago and offered to haul the wheels down for me. After he convinced me that it would be safe for him, I decided I'd go.

For the record, not only did Jim man up, so did Mark at Hubcap Heaven. He is going to have Neal drive over to Whitney's house and pick up my wheels, and mount the sticker Hoosiers tomorrow. Magically, with a few phone calls and posts, and a little money, everything sort of took care of itself.

It's going to be ridiculously expensive, but I'm glad it all worked out. I'll say it again. The amateur motorsports community kicks a whole lot of ass.

Let's not get crazy and call it safe. I figure if I crash they will just bury me with 8 wheels/tires instead of 4.

I just looked at the schedule and it looks like practice starts begin at 3pm. I'll be down there around 2pm on Friday so you should have plenty of time to change the rears if you want to try your hand at the tree.

Looking forward to it,

Jim

If you're really interested I would be willing to help evaluate this and set it up at Sanford -- It would be great to do a test day with the M3 once I put the new suspension on it. With 2 kids in daycare and a working wife, I find I can afford weekday play-time a lot easier than weekend time. Somehow I have a lot of vacation time to burn this year too.

Anyone else up for an informal, members-only, experienced-only weekday test and tune in August/September timeframe?

We might be able to do a skidpad in the parking area next to the classroom there. Hmmm, Chuck got me thinking.....

Mike, I'm definitely interested as I want some way to get Jackie and Andy some serious seat time. If we can limit the number of cars to less than 20 or so, we can all really get a large number of runs. At the Evo Extreme school, there were 9 of us on a short course, and almost felt like I had enough runs by the end of the day. My plan was to do something like this between July 30th and Aug 10th. I'd be up for a second day too.

Do you have any rough idea how much the rental fee + insurance + porta-john + THSCC cone rental would run?? The skidpad idea is probably not feasible since you can't get it wet, and speeds in the dry are probably too high, not to mention tire wear.

That area is pretty gritty and well torn up as well.

You guys interested in a dedicated test and tune, or a nationals warmup course?

My goal would be all car tuning and setup. My first thought was to get 16 or 20 people and set up 4 stations (conditions permitting):

1. Skidpad (at building OR maybe at far end of runway)
2. Sweepers (at far end) - as long as possible
3. Slalom and Offsets (main runway) -- one of each, maybe with segment timing
4. Mini-T course w/ Pivots (main runway close side) - timed and displayed

My initial idea was to split into groups of 4 (or 5) people who rotate stations on the 1 1/2 hour. The 4-5 people would decide amongst themselves who runs, who shags cones, and handle all timing responsibilities at their station.

I plan to use a stopwatch on the skidpad. Something I have been wanting to do since reading "The Unfair Advantage" years ago.
