Just in case you weren't aware, Triad is running an event in Sanford on July 29th. If you're looking for a close by event to fill the void between our upcoming Danville event and the NCAC (you are going to the NCAC, right?), this could fit the bill.

If you haven't run with Triad in a while or you just want to see how another club runs their events, you should check it out. They are currently working on a new pre-reg system which may not be up by that point so it will likely be just walk-up registration.

If you can make it, come on out and take their wood! Perhaps not the best choice of words considering the "activity" in the DC thread but do it anyway!

Kick ass - perfect to burn the sealer off my tires!

Jim - any chance of a ride-along/coaching?

It depends on the run groups which they don't announce until the driver's meeting. They typically do all their runs at once so if we are in opposite groups, it won't work at all. If we are in the same group, it might get a little hairy time-wise since I have a co-driver for that event so we'll have to play it by ear. Otherwise, I'd be happy to help.

Any idea on TSCC's ride-along policy? I've got a friend who might want to come out, but I don't want to promise that she'll get to ride with me without knowing.
She can't drive a stick, or I'd let her co-drive.

I believe it is more restrictive than Tarheel's. If I remember correctly, the only passengers allowed are experienced competitors serving as an instructor for the driver. I don't think they ever let non-competitors ride along due to their insurance regulations. They may have relaxed that in recent years but I'm not sure.

Your best bet is to sign up on Triad's forum and ask over there.

Triad's new policy is anyone that has signed the waiver can ride along on any runs, competitor or not. I asked at the last event.

That's interesting. I believe they use the same insurance co (K&K) that we do.

What is our current policy? I know we don't allow novices to ride with novices but by your post I'm guessing we don't allow non-competitors to ride along with experienced folk?

To answer my own question:

Quote:
2.5. Experienced drivers may take along any other registered participant on timed runs. Novice drivers may take along any experienced registered participant on timed runs; novices may not take other novices on timed runs. A novice is considered to be anyone having participated in 3 or fewer autocrosses OR still running in Novice Class. Any exceptions to these rules must be specifically approved by the President, or in his/her absence, the highest ranking club officer present at the event.

So no non-competitors, huh? Or do we just have to ask Ryan or an AutoX VP? Is that an insurance thing or is that a club policy thing? Just curious...

The only times I've seen us allow a non-competitor to ride along on a timed runs are for honored guests such as the site owner. Otherwise, it's best to wait for fun runs.

I know I took a friend for a ride (he was interested in running at the next event, wanted to see what it was like). I had him sign the waiver of course, but somebody caught me last time we were in Sanford. Not sure what the official policy is, but some members take it upon themselves to forbid it (for the record, I'm not angry at this person, they were just trying to look out for the club, and I applaud that).

So long as they have signed the waiver, I don't see the harm in it unless its been explicitly prohibited by our insurance company. Also, its kind of a difficult rule to enforce anyways, when everyone is wearing helmets, its kinda hard to know who's who. Just my opinion of course, worth only what you paid for it. . .

Brice, it has nothing to do with what you "see", harm or not. If it is against our insurance policy and something happens, there could be big trouble. If it's simply a club policy, it's up to you to go through the proper channels whether or not you agree with it. That's a fairly poor attitude considering what could be at risk.

I was looking for a clarification from the officers, not trying to debate the merit of the policy.
