For reference, its my wife's car, not mine. My name is on the loan, but her name is on the title (sweet deal for her huh?). I still drive the STS car you see as my avatar.

And its about freaking time, B-stock is a ridiculous classification for the car. They just didn't want minis winning H, G, AND D stock, so they screwed over the Works car people and put them in an absurd class. The works cars ARE handicapped by having to run 17" wheels though (since you can't order a works car without the sport package). Its a good thing we haven't gotten her those 16" wheels and Falkens we were looking at to try and make her competitive in STX.

If this is submitted for review, when would it actually take effect? I'm VERY interested to know this.

This move, if approved, would be effective for 2008 and not before. I don't recall for certain, but I believe it applies to all JCW's.

so, if it applies to all JCW cars (and not ony factory JCW cars), then are 17" wheels truly a requirement? Sorry to threadjack, but this is really interesting for me, and I'm not sure how the updating rule applies to this. A factory JCW car can only be had with 17" wheels as the sport package is required to order the JCW package, but obviously any car can have the JCW kit dealer installed, 16" wheels or 17" wheels.

I think it boils down to how *your* car could be ordered. I thought that the dealer installed stuff stopped and switched to factory stuff. So if you have a factory JCW car you're stuck with what you could get that way. I think.

It wouldn't surprise me if the majority of member feedback supports moving the Mini S's to DS but is against moving the JCW Minis. It seems there are a lot of murky issues surrounding the JCW's and with their limited numbers, they may want to leave it as is.

But then again, the "best of breed" concept seems to be in vogue so that may ultimately be the deciding factor. It will be very interesting to watch for sure.

from what I've read, only '06 JCW's (and '07 conertible JCW's) are eligible for stock class as is. It doesn't have to be factory installed, but you have to install the brakes AND the tuning kit (since both are included in the factory package).

Seems to me like the works package isn't THAT big of an advantage over a regular cooper S anyways (at least not the difference between BS and GS!), considering it is saddled with 17" wheels. The ITR has similar power, slightly less weight, and 15" wheels. I don't see the mini (or the works mini) dethroning it or the BMW's, but maybe I'm underestimating the car.

Is GH's new mini a JCW?
The 07 MiniS in GS is a bad joke IMHO. Using the BOB philosophy all MiniS's should be moved to DS (where they belonged in the first place).

If it was, he'd be racing it in BS. So no.

And I'm sure you've written your letter in support of the move, right?

I honestly have no idea what is eligible or not but if that's the case, it may only serve to strengthen the argument that the JCW Minis should be left where they are.

I don't think many (anybody?) will disagree that it *is* an advantage over the regular '05-'06 Mini S's and knowing AutoX'ers general mentality, that could be more than enough to want to keep it in BS. It would be great if it is an equalizer with respect to the '07's (assuming they are really faster) but people may not want to take that chance. On the other hand, it could save a bunch of people from buying a new car yet again so that could outweigh any other feelings or thoughts. Welcome to the stock class shuffle.

If you really feel strongly one way or the other, it behooves you to join the SCCA and let your feelings known through the proper channels. It isn't all that expensive and you get some decent side benefits as well.

Think torque, not horsepower. And don't forget that pesky Crossfire... :)

Maybe this needs to be broken out as a separate discussion?

This move is much needed. Brice I wouldn't be so quick to throw the flag up on the 17s being a disadvantage. With the extra power and Hoosier now offers the 225/40/17 it could be better than the narrower 16s. I know GH and a couple others are running the Enkei RPF1 17x7 wheels with the new Hoosiers with a lot of success. I will be writing my letter in favor of the move and I even have a car in DS, so I might be crazy.

I don't see what the fuss is over, the MCS isn't spectacular, it's just decent.

I hate the idea of having my initials on my car. That's so Land's End.

Seriously, everything is going to be an also ran to the 07+ MCS in DS. Even the Cross "I'm really a BS car" fire. :P I think it's a bit lame to kick the JCW's there. I don't believe anyone has taken a run at BS with one nationally. And that new Hoosier does make it interesting.

Or maybe they're making room for the 07+ JCW that's suppose to show up late this year/early next.

I may just start running SM locally. Or STX.

What's the address for the SEB? I'll write in favor of my car going to DS if it'll get everyone off my Pax back because that .001 isn't going to make a squirt of difference. And I'll get to run heads up against Vail and Buckley.

We all know you will fail at that task, you are a decent driver, not spectacular just decent, but not everyone realizes that Keith is actually decently quick.

Aaron pretty well spanked Keith after only 4 runs in a Crossfire, ergo..

decently quick > just decent, not spectacular, however both are "teh suck" compared to Aaron (and Bryan).

Yall should just take up knitting.
