Let's see if I can word this so I don't push any of the wrong buttons  -

I'm picking up here and there some locations people really like to run.
What are some sites in in NC, SC, VA that would be worth a special effort to go to?
Just trying to get as much seat time as possible, and at sites that are worth the drive.
Soliciting only positive comments has to be cool, right 8) ?

The Michelin site in SC is supposed to be pretty darn solid. Granted, for me it's about an hour trip. From the Triangle, it's about 3 hours...

VMP in Virginia is a great site, but the course enjoyment depends a lot on the club. - AB

ACU4 up in Virginia Beach (isn't that where it is? It's up in Virginia and is on the beach, anyway) is a pretty good local site other than the ones Aaron mentioned.

Thanks!

Any help on what clubs to track for these sites? I know VMSC and NASA-MA both use VMP. What about Michelin and ACU4?

Cherry Point in Havelock, NC. The airfield was recently repaved in 2010. Size is about 1000' x 400'ish

You can check http://www.ncrscca.com/solo-sites

NCR has a couple of good autox sites that I would recommend.

New River Air Station in Jacksonville, NC and the Global Transpark in Kinston.
We typically get 6 runs an event, plus additional fun runs if there's enough time. You can check www.ncrscca.com/autocross.htm or my website for an event schedule.

Are you guys gonna run the GTP again this year?

How is that site? Big? Good loops? Got an aerial shot w/ the space you get to use? Coursemap? Video?

Thanks!

Michelin (the Black Lake) is no longer allowed to be used for AX. ACU4 is a great site! as much smooth concrete as the black lake, beach along side the pad for the family, watch the dolphins and boats go by. Only bad part is accomidations are pricey in Norfolk if you need to stay overnite, must preregister to get on the security clearance list to get access to the base. Greensboro Colliseum is also a good site (Triad).

I should have said Continental Tire's site. Chuck's right, Michelin has been blocked for the last couple of years, and I wasn't overly impressed when I ran Black Lake anyway. - AB

Continental Tire's site is fairly small. I ran there earlier in the year and wasn't too impressed. I had to use 1st gear 3 times on course which is a bit much for me. If the course was any bigger/faster, it probably would have been in the high 20-second range. I won't be going out of my way to run there again.

Aaron, do they have another lot at Continental that they weren't using that day perhaps? I see that they have the 24-hour event there this year and I'll probably skip it if they will be using the same lot.

Kendt, if you haven't run the 24-hour event with CCR, you should give it a try. You will get more seat time than you can stand, that's for sure.

Jim
