It's been a long day after.

I really can't say enough about the volunteer spirit that we have in the club. After I arrived onsite, I was chatting with Dustin next to the bus and just looked around at the swarm of activity around there. Nobody had to ask someone to set up the timing equipment, it was just done. Nobody had to ask about the display. Nobody had to have their arm twisted into setting up worker stations. It was just done. Perfectly.

There's a reason why the SCCA hasn't been able to get a foothold in upper North Carolina, and it's THSCC. I often hear about how much other local clubs around the US suck, and it makes me both laugh and feel grateful that I'm surrounded by such people.

Thanks also to the people that slid extra checks, cash and backpatting my way at the event. It all means a lot, and insures that I will be involved with a fourth annual V Foundation event next year!!!

I also ran some estimates today about the total raised, and  . I'll have firm numbers later this week after Amy has a chance to gather herself and divide up monies, but  . As locals say in Wilson, we done good.

Lastly, I'd like to thank Scott Johnson. He was there as president (and co-worker) when I was brainstorming the first event, and has seen the evolution into something truly special. And he did the event chair duties with a wife and kid at the event. And drove the bus down. And was point man on the phone contacting most of the sponsors that donated money and prizes for the raffle. I tip a beer in the general direction of south Durham.

And now for the moment that you've all been waiting for -- I picked up the money from Amy last night. I still have a couple of outstanding checks out there, but I know that their money is good.

In all, we raised $6535 for the V Foundation for Cancer Research. Well over triple the amount that we raised last year. Thanks again to everybody for making this happen.

We still have shirts for sale that can be picked up at next months meeting. $10 short sleeve and $15 long sleeve white Beefy-Tees.

Here's a pdf of the design

Get 'em while they're hot!

I'm meeting with John Leshney next Wednesday (May 30) at 12:00 to hand over the checks and t-shirts for the staff. If anybody else wants to come out, please let me know. We may need more hands to hold up the Big Check. :D

Edit: they're in Cary between Cary Parkway and Maynard near Preston.

I'll try to be there! 8)

<edit> Are you really presenting a 'big' check? That would be cool to get on video!

James Jackson is the name of the street they are off of. Between Stonewood Grille and the Police Station.

Eric has it and has promised to bring a big bucket of water to Flashdance splash himself with it before he gives it to you. Because he's an artist like that.
