I know the Property manager for RDU from work. Todd reminded me who she is. If one of the officers wants to give me the go ahead I'll call and see what the deal is

Rob, you have my vote. I would engage Brice since I believe he has a "package" we can use to present the club and what we do.

I'm like 5 mins from there too, that would be awesome if that lot worked out.

Ah yes, Park-n-Ride #5. The key problem with every parking lot at RDU is the light poles every 10ft. (and fwiw, most of the apron has anchor points you don't want to drive over in an autox. which rules out the national guard as well... they keep very expensive aircraft out there; not that RDU would allow us inside their security perimeter.)

Todd told me we didn't have a chance in hell there. We'll see what Rob digs up. Often times, "connections" are the key. Thats how PCA got Manheim auto auction. They knew somebody. It's not cuz it made good business sense for a national car auction company, thats for sure.

I was just relaxing on the couch watching an old episode of Star Trek and the thought occurred to me that Walnut Creek Amphitheater should have a large parking lot. Random, I know. A quick look at the Google satellite shows a decent sized square lot that appears to have limited obstructions and with a little creativity would support a 40 second or so course. There are also paint lines indicating some sort of vehicular obstacle course navigation takes place there. A quick search of this forum for the term "walnut creek" brought a couple of results, one was in regards to motorcycle training. Have we tried to rent this site lately?

I think they do motorcycle license training and testing there.

Someone on Triad's facebook mentioned a shed being built at Danville on the area where we auto-x? Anyone in the club seen it or know anything about it? Image

It is on the runway across from the crossover. It is literally right off the surface so course design has to take it into account and make sure to avoid it being in the runoff area.

Yeah, it's an issue for course design. Be nice if they put it more off into the grass. This is big concern in regard to design now.

It could be worse, it could be better.

I shared an old Laurinburg pic earlier on the FB page and it occurred to me no club in state that I know of has a nice concrete site in NC. Perhaps a referral bonus would get folks motivated to keep their eyes peeled? Free year of auto-x entries or monetary reward perhaps??? They HAVE to be out there. Somewhere.

I think some enterprising person should buy a chunk of land out in central NC that would at least be driveable for most of the clubs and pave a big square patch on it.

Not sure enough business could be drummed up to make it a viable plan though, and obviously would require a sizable sum up front for the paving and site prep.

We're workin' on it. Land: that's easy. Paving ~6ac... I don't have a few spare million.

We need to find a wealthy business man, get him hooked on Autocross, and then convince him it would be a sound investment.

Ahem. The land doesn't need to be paved: why not have an "Autocross" on dirt?
