Not posted to the schedule yet, you didn't miss anything. I booked the dates late May for us, but just haven't gotten the MSR event created or the website updated yet as I've been travelling for work.

No problem since I probably hadn't checked the calendar since you booked it. :)

What are we doing to check with the “powers at be” who previously denied us are old sites such as Sanford and the Coliseum lots in Raleigh? Have we re-sent feelers for this?
What about the State Troopers and Raleigh PD? I think we need create a team of people to work together on this. We have Jimmy V right….why not sell the Jimmy V event to NCSU/State Fair Grounds at the coliseum lots? Why not do a charity autocross with the PBA or first responders groups? See if we can get local law enforcement/first responders to come out to an autocross school the day before. Use the same logic behind how NCR landed cherry point?
Charity Autocross for Wounded Warriors at a lot in Fort Bragg, start small…see if we can get into the larger areas.

I understand that false knowledge is more dangerous than ignorance, so please correct me if I am out of line by saying…we give up to easy? Also, for years we placed one person in charge of event booking, I think we need to give that person help. A committee of sorts. One person alone is not fair. It’s a club, make it a CLUB effort. If I am wrong, I am humble….please correct me if you think so. I do not know everything, but I am tired of keeping my mouth shut about this. No offense to anyone please, Steven

An update from behind the scenes:

Sanford is off limits due to a ruling by the Central Carolina Community College board. I called and emailed earlier this year when putting the schedule together, and was given the same answer. I have been doing so each year just to check in.

RBC/PNC center is basically a no go as we are just an annoyance at the amount of money we can offer. If we came in and offered them $5000, they might listen. That lot isn't worth $5000 though.

State Fairgrounds doesn't really have enough real estate to be reasonable.

A proposal was put together for the Raleigh PD with respect to running the Jimmy V event there. It was at least discussed at the Seargants meeting, but they decided to not go forward with it.

For the SHP facility, we talked to the officer in charge, and they don't allow the public on site, period.

With respect to Ft. Bragg, we have tried two approaches. We have spoken with the B.O.S.S. (better options for single soldiers) program but there has been no significant movement, depsite quarterly follow up. We have also engaged the USO through the Wounded Warrior project to see if they can shake things loose a bit. No significant movement there.

That being said, I would LOVE to delegate a couple of these follow ups to others if people are interested. Bragg DOES require some regular follow up that needs to be handled. It's not dead, but its not moving very fast. Same goes with Sanford. We need to continue to push the board there as much as possible. RPD, SHP, RBC/PNC, I'd say those are just a no go at this point.

Thanks for tracking these down Brice. It's a ton of work that only occasionally gets put into the spotlight.

For sure. Like most behind the scenes work it goes unnoticed and is under appreciated.

I'd have to say that's not 100% true, as BRAKES (teen driving school) runs there. (yeah, letting us yabos hoon about there isn't a fair comparison)

Maybe if THSCC offered a driving school there?

I think we'd get in at RDU (old national guard runway) long before the SHP will ever let us in there. We're just not famous enough.

There are some old runways at the Kinston Global Transpark. We should inquire about those. Or the transpark itself since it's a complete waste.

Zoom way in on google maps, and you can see the pavement is totally wasted on that old runway at the Kinston site, broken up severely. :(

True., esp at the far ends..but I definitely see autocross-like elements painted onto the surface...a sweeper, a lane change and clear rubbered-in areas where the taxiway sections intersect the runway. Someone has been using it for driver training, I suppose.

NCR ran there once or twice only because one of the security guys that works there also runs with NCR. Pavement is beat to shit and narrow. Area is a SIDA area which means you have to be escorted the entire time someone is on site and a guard at the gate full time. If it were viable I'm sure NCR would still be running there.

I'll go ahead and break hearts on the Washington, NC airfield that NCR used a couple of times, that pavement is now occupied by a solar farm :cryin:

I had a hell of time there the one event I did. I remember one of the work assignments was giving people the okay to cross the intersecting runway that connected the course and the paddock due to incoming planes landing. It was a fun site and reminded me a little bit of Laurinburg, or at least the surface.
