It's not the park & ride but that's very close to it. The only reason I recognized the park & ride is because it was a makeshift skate/bmx park with lots of ramps in the back lot about 10+ years ago. Wow, there's tons of stuff around it now.

Anybody know what this is?

Says Cumberland county animal control office, but somehow I doubt animal control has a test track. . .

Edit: Sheriff's driver training center, found it.

Sorta smallish, but the total lack of obstructions relative to crown might make for more usable space and a change of pace depending on the condition of the pavement.

Chapel Hill park and ride would not work very well b/c of the obstructions in the lot btw. I've seen that lot before, it couldn't really safely support an autocross event, at least not one that I'd be comfortable GMing. Granted, I guess Triad uses LJVM, but that site always makes me a bit nervous.

That actually looks pretty usable. They even have a course already set up!

Again, Brice have you checked into the Wilson Mall? The whole thing is slated to be torn down, sans the theatre and two stores. The rest is supposed to be a park I think. The rear lot(s) are decent sized areaa (not huge but decent) and there would be a separate area for grid. It may be a long shot, but it wouldn't hurt to ask. I'm sure it's run by some management company, though I doubt they are local.

Anyone still working at the mall from the late 70s? THSCC used to hold autocrosses there in the back lots. At the time, the mall hadn't expanded yet so we used two back lots (using the cross-over between them) and then up the far side of the mall and back all the way through to the beginning. One car on course at a time. It was actually a fun place to autocross with a very long (well over 1 minute) course. Too bad they built some sort of expansion that covers a lot of that area today.

From the satellite, this looks pretty sweet, and could have some very interesting courses there. Any word from them?

Christian had sent us a tip on the Horace Williams airport a few weeks ago. Apparently the airport is no longer active at all. It's long but narrow, about 55' judging by the aerial view. Did we decide definitively that it wouldn't work?

Thanks, Brice!

I noticed this spot on my commute, just east outside of Greensboro, Carolina Corporate Center.

I'm 75% sure this is gravel but this is the auto auction I was talking about a bit north of Durham.

Actually I can see the demarcation between asphalt and gravel at the entrance. :(

Speaking of auction sites, the PCA runs here: https://www.google.com/maps/preview#!q=145+Auction+Ln%2C+Statesville%2C+NC+28625&data=!1m4!1m3!1d4346!2d-80.8547644!3d35.846471!2m1!1e3!4m11!1m10!4m8!1m3!1d206576!2d-78.884911!3d36.0018269!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!17b1&fid=7

Now that's what I call a sea of asphalt.

2hrs 14 minutes from my house...added to the list! Maybe CCR or Triad could get some events there?

Yep,I'm aware of that....CCR and PCA "share" Zmax, and we and Triad use Danville, so I wonder why not share that Statesville site too? Just curious....

Because the bulk of our membership doesn't want to drive to Statesville for an AX?
